After taking some days off to attend to personal business, right tackle Lane Johnson is back on the practice field, doing his All-Pro thing and, as he says, "having fun."
Johnson met the media on Saturday at the Jefferson Health Training Complex and said that the 2026 season will "potentially, probably be my last year" as his life priorities away from football come more into focus.
"It's kind of where I'm at," he said. "Just looking forward to this year, playing the best I can. Stay healthy and that's about it. I thought about last year. Lots of conversations with my family, my kids, my oldest is turning 13 here in a few days, so it's hard to get time back. I feel like those years are very pivotal. It will be, I think, a fun transition.
"My focus here is with the Eagles, it's playing. I still feel I can be a premier tackle in this league. I feel good. Stay healthy and keep stacking days."
Johnson pointed to the health of his parents as well, and he said repeatedly how thankful he is for the support the Eagles organization has given him during his absence.
"All the support, all the love here," he said, "I plan on having a really good last year."
Johnson talked about how he wanted to be remembered as a great teammate, a player who improved as his career went along and as a player who lifted others around him, but there is plenty of time to look back at his marvelous career. The focus now is on learning the new offense and helping it fly.
"I feel like this system allows you to play freely," he said. "You have inside guard help. You're not worried about getting beat on your island. All in all, I think the scheme will allow us to let loose and show our abilities more. I think it will be a lot of fun. I just want to stay healthy and win some games and have some fun and enjoy myself this last year. I still feel like I can move and play to the best of my abilities."
Johnson, of course, is a two-time Super Bowl champion. He's been named an All-Pro player five times and has been voted to the Pro Bowl six times. His off-the-field work has been far beyond the norm and, truly, in every way, he has been an exemplary Eagle since the team selected him in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
