Great First Move Of Eagles' Draft Week

Ernie Sims goes from losing every year to having a chance to win the Super Bowl. If there was ever a player who figured to benefit from a change of scenery, it is Sims, a former first-round draft pick who has had it tough for the last four seasons in Detroit. Now he comes to the Eagles in a unique three-way trade, and the Eagles have big plans ahead for Sims at one of their linebacker positions.

What they are going to do with him isn't entirely clear. It's a tough time to get clarity, as Andy Reid and Howie Roseman are deep in meetings preparing for the draft. More on the exact plans later. I'll tell you what I think the Eagles hope to get out of Sims, the ninth overall selection in the 2006 NFL draft.

I think he comes here as a starter. I think that he immediately competes with Akeem Jordan. I think Sims has the kind of pedigree that means something here. I think he is fast and aggressive and a very good tackler, always around the ball. We'll see how he translates into this defense.

I'm excited about this. Sims seems to me to be a three-down linebacker with all of his speed and playmaking ability. More to come? We'll see. The phones are burning up, I'm certain.

More to come. I promise.
