Spadaro: Inside Howie Roseman's day during draft season

It’s full-go for the Eagles and Roseman with the NFL Draft roughly a week away.

This is Howie Roseman Season, and he is cooking. The phone lines are lit. The meeting rooms are full and the conversations are flowing – with the Eagles' coaching staff, with the scouts who are in town for these two weeks buttoning up final prep for the 2026 NFL Draft, with college football contacts and, we know, with the rest of the league.

What is Howie Roseman going to do? It is far greater than an Eagles question, as the two-time NFL Executive of the Year is known throughout league circles as a master wheeler and dealer and roster maker.

"I try to talk to as many people as possible in the college world to continue to gather information, and I try to talk to as many people as possible in the league, with teams, to talk about possible scenarios," Roseman said. "Moreso than anything, going over our Day 3 guys (possible draft picks in Rounds 4-7) and our free agent list to make sure those guys are in the right spot waiting to be picked or to be signed when appropriate."

The day for Roseman begins early – and this is something that is routine for him the entire year. He is eager to get a workout in before he settles in for the day at the Jefferson Health Training Complex – "to get my mind working a little bit" – and he wants to be home at a reasonable hour to have dinner with his family.

That, particularly at this time of the offseason, isn't always possible, but Roseman tries to stay consistent. The key, he says, is "to stay fresh and ready for three days of the NFL Draft and the intensity of that." The understanding is that there is no more important weekend of the NFL offseason, and Roseman will have his blueprint in place before the NFL Draft begins on April 23.

The Eagles have eight selections in this Draft, starting with No. 23 in Round 1 next Thursday night. Should the team have a chance to move up or move back, Roseman will have scenarios in place. Should a player slide down in the first round, Roseman will be prepared.

All of the work Roseman and his personnel team have done throughout the year – this is an 11-month process – pays off over the course of next weekend.

"We have our scouts in from all over the country and it's like a family reunion," he said. "They work hard and they do a great job gathering information and helping us do our best job in the Draft. We've been through a lot together – good times and some tough times, and I appreciate what they do for us."

Here are all 22 Eagles first round picks who made the Pro Bowl, from Davey O'Brien in 1939 to Quinyon Mitchell in 2024.

This is an all-consuming job, and there aren't any better than Roseman at tying everything into a neat NFL Draft package. The Eagles have 16 projected starters – eight on each side of the ball – on the current roster who were drafted by the team. They won Super Bowl LII and Super Bowl LIX and fell just short in Super Bowl LVII.

In a results business, Roseman's track record is outstanding. He is reminded of that on this busy Tuesday as he looks up at film of a college player, checks his cell phone for messages at least five times in a span of 10 minutes, and peeks at his growing email list.

These busy times are the best times for Roseman.

"I love it. We all put in the work for the reason of building the best team we can put together," he said. "You have to stay focused and keep the big picture in mind always, and all of these great people around me make it work for the Philadelphia Eagles.
