Saturday's Injury Report

No surprise, but the Eagles will be without All-Pro linemen Jalen Carter and Lane Johnson on Monday night against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Eagles officially ruled both players out on Saturday.

Carter will miss his second game of the season due to injury. The 2024 All-Pro is out with injuries to both of his shoulders. He previously missed the October 9 game against the Giants with a heel injury.

"Got a lot of faith though in the guys that will be in," Head Coach Nick Sirianni said on Saturday in his final press conference ahead of the prime-time clash. "We'll see how it is today and we'll go from there. But got a lot of faith in the guys in that defensive line group and we'll see what happens."

Carter has played 72 percent of the defensive snaps this season despite not playing against the Giants or in the season opener against Dallas. Moro Ojomo and Jordan Davis have each played more than 60 percent of the snaps. Byron Young is next in line, having been on the field for just a shade below a quarter of the snaps.

Rookie third-round pick Ty Robinson has been active for seven games, but has played just 35 total defensive snaps.

"I think just be able to show and prove myself to the organization and prove myself that I'm able to go out there and compete with the guys," said Robinson of a potentially expanded role. "I'm just excited for whatever they're willing to give me."

The Eagles also have Ta'Quon Graham and Gabe Hall on the practice squad. Hall played in the season opener as well as the first matchup with the Giants.

According to Pro Football Focus, the Eagles have played with three defensive tackles on the field in base personnel 21.6 percent of the time this season.

Johnson will miss his third straight game with a foot injury. Sirianni provided an update on the six-time Pro Bowl right tackle on Saturday.

"He works his butt off in every aspect of his game that he does. He's continuing to get better," Sirianni said. "Not only does he work his [tail] off with the weight room, the film room, the practice field, that's also – you can't shut that off. It's also going to be with his rehab process."

Fred Johnson will start at right tackle in Lane Johnson's absence.

Everyone else fully participated in Saturday's practice. Safety Marcus Epps (shoulder) and tackle Myles Hinton (back) are questionable since they are on Injured Reserve. The Eagles have until Monday at 4 PM to activate them.

Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson rested on Friday, but is good to go for Monday night. Wide receiver/punt returner Xavier Gipson missed the Black Friday game with a shoulder injury, but he returned to practice this week and has no game status designation. Outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips (concussion) also was a full participant in Saturday's practice and has no game status designation.

QB Justin Herbert limited, questionable for Monday night

The Chargers have officially listed quarterback Justin Herbert as questionable for Monday night's game against the Eagles.

Herbert was limited on Saturday and did not fully participate in practice at any point this week. However, the Chargers have remained optimistic that Herbert, who suffered a fractured left (non-throwing) hand last Sunday against the Raiders that required surgery, will play.

The Chargers are 8-4 and currently sit as the top Wild Card team in the AFC, but remain in the hunt for the AFC West title behind the 10-2 Denver Broncos. The Chargers beat the Broncos earlier this season and will get a rematch in Week 18.

Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni said that the defense has spent the week preparing for both Herbert and backup Trey Lance.

"You always have to go through every situation that could possibly happen and yeah, we will prepare for both," Sirianni said.

Rookie running back Omarion Hampton is also questionable, but that's because he is currently on Injured Reserve after suffering a fractured ankle on October 5. Reports indicate that the Chargers will activate Hampton, who was a full participant the past two days of practice. Hampton has 314 rushing yards and two touchdowns, averaging 4.8 yards per carry, this season. He also has 20 catches for 136 yards through the air.

The Chargers are coming off a powerful rushing performance led by Kimani Vidal, who rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown. The Eagles will be without All-Pro defensive tackle Jalen Carter on Monday night.

Los Angeles has until Monday night to officially activate Hampton, the team's first-round pick, running back Hassan Haskins, and/or defensive lineman Otito Ogbonnia, who are also on Injured Reserve.

Friday's Injury Report

The Eagles added Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson to the injury report on Friday. He did not practice, as he was rested ahead of the Monday night matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The only other change to the Eagles' injury report was that wide receiver/punt returner Xavier Gipson was upgraded to a full participant. Gipson suffered a shoulder injury in Week 12 against the Dallas Cowboys and missed the Black Friday matchup with the Bears. He returned to practice in a limited capacity on Thursday.

All-Pro linemen Jalen Carter (shoulders) and Lane Johnson (foot) missed practice again on Friday. Johnson has not practiced since exiting the Week 11 win over the Detroit Lions. Fred Johnson has started at right tackle in the previous two games.

Chargers remain optimistic about Justin Herbert for Monday night ...

However, the Pro Bowl quarterback remained limited in practice on Friday.

Justin Herbert underwent surgery on Monday to stabilize a fracture in his left (non-throwing) hand. He suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday's win over the Raiders. Trey Lance replaced Herbert briefly as the Chargers' training staff placed a cast and glove over the hand. The Chargers protected Herbert by only running plays out of the shotgun and pistol formations.

Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters on Friday that Herbert has taken reps in both 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 periods this week, but has yet to take any snaps from under center.

"On track, optimistic, looked good out there," Harbaugh told reporters, according to Chargers.com. "The really good thing, I'm going to ask him every day, Better today than yesterday?'

"Much better on Thursday than he was on Wednesday, Friday better than it was Thursday. We're hopeful that tomorrow will be better than today."

Herbert admitted that the added day of preparation for Monday night's game will help him be able to play.

"Every extra day is huge. It's obviously a situation where you have to see how it goes throughout the week," Herbert said. "You'd love as much time as possible, so I think having an extra day doesn't hurt. Just see how it goes."

To alleviate the pressure on Herbert, the Chargers may get first-round pick Omarion Hampton back on the field. Hampton, who suffered an ankle fracture on October 5, was a full participant for the first time since returning to practice. Hampton has 314 rushing yards and two touchdowns, averaging 4.8 yards per carry, this season. He also has 20 catches for 136 yards through the air.

Edge rusher Bud Dupree was a full participant on Friday after resting on Thursday. Wide receiver Quentin Johnston, who has seven receiving touchdowns on the year, was a full participant in Friday's practice after being limited on Thursday due to a shoulder injury.

Thursday's Injury Report

Two of the Eagles' All-Pro linemen did not participate in Thursday's practice ahead of the Monday night showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Defensive tackle Jalen Carter was sidelined with injuries to both shoulders. Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio noted that Carter was dealing with the injury during his Wednesday press conference.

"He does have a shoulder issue. He has been playing with it. Late in the game (against the Bears), he had a great play with it, but it's definitely something there," Fangio said.

Fangio added that rookie defensive tackle Ty Robinson may factor more into the line rotation due to Carter's injury. The third-round pick has been on the field for 35 defensive snaps this year.

Offensive tackle Lane Johnson was the only other Eagle to miss practice on Thursday. He has missed the past two games with a foot injury. Fred Johnson started in Johnson's absence.

Safety Marcus Epps returned to practice for the first time since being placed on Injured Reserve with a shoulder ailment on November 1. The seventh-year veteran played in eight games this season, but was previously a starter for the Eagles in his first tenure with the team. From 2020-23, Epps started in 28 games, including playoffs. Epps would need to be activated off Injured Reserve by Monday at 4 PM in order to be eligible to play against the Chargers. The Eagles elevated Andre' Sam from the practice squad last week with safety Andrew Mukuba going on Injured Reserve.

Wide receiver/punt returner Xavier Gipson returned to practice in a limited capacity for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury against the Cowboys on November 23.

What's the latest on Justin Herbert?

Quarterback Justin Herbert was limited in practice on Thursday as he recovers from surgery to stabilize a fracture in his left (non-throwing) hand that took place on Monday. Herbert suffered the injury during the first quarter of Sunday's win over the Raiders. He exited the game for eight plays, but returned after the hand was placed in a cast with a glove over it. The Chargers protected Herbert by only running plays for him out of the shotgun and pistol formations.

Trey Lance replaced Herbert for the brief period on Sunday. He is taking the first-team reps in Herbert's absence.

Despite the limited designation on Thursday, the Chargers have expressed optimism that Herbert will play Monday night against the Eagles.

"Yeah, that's the plan. To prepare as if I'm going to play," Herbert said on Wednesday, according to Chargers.com. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman have expressed similar sentiments in press conferences this week.

It remains to be seen whether rookie first-round pick Omarion Hampton will return to action against the Eagles. Hampton was a limited participant on Thursday. Reports indicate he was wearing a non-contact jersey at practice. Hampton was placed on Injured Reserve on October 8 after fracturing his left ankle against the Washington Commanders. His 21-day practice window opened on November 25. Hampton has 314 rushing yards and two touchdowns, averaging 4.8 yards per carry, this season. He also has 20 catches for 136 yards through the air.

Wide receiver Quentin Johnston was limited with a shoulder injury. He was seen at practice with a non-contact jersey. He leads the Chargers with seven touchdown receptions this season.
