Running back Darren Sproles had every reason to put on Pharrell Williams' hit song, Happy, on Thursday morning.

When reports first surfaced that the Saints were looking to move the all-purpose running back, Sproles went on Twitter to express his frustration before finally asking to be released. The Saints didn't grant him his wish. Instead, they sent Sproles to the Eagles in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick. When Sproles learned of his destination, he was relieved.

"When I found out I was coming here, I was excited. It all worked out for the best," Sproles said.

"I didn't want them to put me on a team that really didn't fit me. That's why I wanted to be released."

Sproles enjoyed the thought of playing for the Eagles that he extended his contract by two years through 2016 on Friday. The 30-year-old Sproles spent the past three seasons in New Orleans after six years with the Chargers. The do-it-all Sproles has 2,221 career rushing yards, 3,381 receiving yards, 1,606 punt return yards and 8,296 kickoff return yards.

Even though he's been in the league since 2005, he doesn't have the wear-and-tear of an every-down running back. That's why he's not concerned about the notion of being a 30-year-old running back.

"I feel great. That's just been the thing forever," Sproles said. "Times have changed though, I feel.

"I'm not a pounder. I'm not really taking them big shots."

Of course, Sproles' 5-foot-6, 181-pound frame may help him avoid those big shots. He has been told for a long time that his size would prevent him from making it to the NFL.

"They told me that when I was in high school, but that always kept me going," he said. "Just to prove people wrong."

Sproles relishes the opportunity to play for an offense that ranked fourth in points and set a franchise record for yards last season.

"I just feel that it could be real crazy," Sproles said.
