EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ -- Head coach Andy Reid walked off the field at MetLife Stadium and headed into the visiting team's locker room where he had a simple message for his players following Sunday's loss to the New York Giants - "There will be better days ahead."

Reid finished his address to the players and went to discuss the game with the reporters who crammed into a narrow room alongside the tunnel that led to the field. Reid shouldered all of the responsibility for a campaign that fell well short of the team's expectations.

"I take blame for the year," Reid said, stoic as always.

The Eagles started 3-1 which included a thrilling 19-17 win over this same Giants team at Lincoln Financial Field back on September 30. A tough loss in Pittsburgh, one in which the Eagles led in the fourth quarter, led to a downward spiral for the Eagles who would finish the season losing 11 of their final 12 contests. Reid has possessed one of the best November and December records in his 14 seasons with the Eagles, but the team simply could not fire up the spark when needed in 2012.

"Things didn't bounce the way we needed them to bounce. I'll take that," Reid said. "It's my responsibility to make sure we get there."

The Eagles left MetLife Stadium and returned to Philadelphia on Sunday evening. Reid said that he will meet with Chairman/CEO Jeffrey Lurie for an end-of-the-season chat Monday morning. Lurie said at the beginning of the season that he wanted to see the team finish better than last year's 8-8 mark. Reid also wanted to accelerate past last year's .500 record.

"Our bar was higher than 8-8 for all of us, Jeffrey included," Reid said.

INJURY UPDATE: At the end of the game, Reid said that linebacker Casey Matthews suffered a concussion and that fellow linebacker Ryan Rau incurred a high-ankle sprain.
