FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Following the joint practice with the New England Patriots on Wednesday, Running Backs/Assistant Head Coach Jemal Singleton met with his position group to deliver an important message – that there are levels to greatness.
"Even when it's great, we still got more we can go to," running back Saquon Barkley said of Singleton's lesson. "We still got levels we can tap into. And that's the standard we got to hold ourselves to."
Barkley has no issue being a standard-bearer for the team's messaging. The team captain sported the same T-shirt as Head Coach Nick Sirianni on Thursday, a picture of a bald eagle surrounded by the team mantra of "Tough. Detailed. Together."
The offense that Sirianni is implementing in concert with new Offensive Coordinator Sean Mannion is expected to provide Barkley plenty of opportunities for success in 2026, rushing behind one of the most talented, veteran offensive lines in the game. The potential was on display this week in New England during the joint practices with the Patriots. Barkley looked nimble, gliding from gap to gap, finding his spot to attack. He was also featured in the pass game, as a weapon on screens out in space.
But the word potential is dangerous.
"We have the potential to do a lot, but that's all it is," left tackle Jordan Mailata said. "It's potential. We see the limit. The sky's the limit."

Barkley agrees.
"I know what it looks like when we're all on the same page and we're playing a high level," the former Offensive Player of the Year said. "But right now, this whole portion of camp and this part of the season is really about just grinding, you know, putting the little things together, staying focused on the little details and getting better one day at a time. And that's kind of the mindset I have and kind of mindset I'm going to have for the rest of the season.
"I don't look too much into the good. Don't look too much into the bad. It's all about the process. And, you know, are we doing the little things right? And I feel like we did a really good job of that. There's a lot we could still work on and just get better from it.
"Just be process-driven. Don't really get too caught up in the results of what it can be or what it can look like. And just let the process take care of the rest."
Barkley became the first Eagles running back in over a decade to gain 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons last season. Including playoffs, Barkley has had more than 300 carries in each of his two seasons with the Eagles. Barkley has looked spry throughout Training Camp and has put his faith in the team to make sure he is on track to be in prime condition when September 13th and the season opener against the Washington Commanders rolls around.
"I think Jemal has a really good game plan for me right now," Barkley said. "I can feel my workload going higher and higher each week as we ramp up. You know, I just trust in him and Nando (Noriega, Director of Player Performance and Sports Science/Head Strength and Conditioning Coach) and our strength staff put me in a position to go out there when it's time to go, to be conditioned enough to go out there and perform at a high level for four quarters."
