Rookie fourth-round pick Donnel Pumphrey was placed on the Injured Reserve list Friday. Head coach Doug Pederson said that the running back tore his hamstring on a scout team rep in Wednesday's practice.
The Eagles have not yet replaced his spot on the 53-man active roster.
The 5-9, 176-pound Pumphrey was one of the most prolific players in college football history. At San Diego State, Pumphrey set the all-time FBS record for most rushing yards with 6,405. He also finished in the top 10 all time in all-purpose yards, total touchdowns, and rushing touchdowns.
Pumphrey was an All-America selection after leading the country with 2,133 yards in 2016 while being named a candidate for the Heisman Trophy award.
From the time Pumphrey was selected, the Eagles put him in packages to take advantage of not only his rushing, but receiving skills out of the backfield as well. The Eagles showcased packages featuring both Pumphrey and Darren Sproles on the field at the same time in Training Camp.
In the preseason, Pumphrey had 49 yards rushing. He also tied for the team lead with 13 catches for 72 yards. He added return duties to his résumé as well.
Pumphrey was inactive for the Week 1 win over Washington.
