The Eagles signed tight end Stone Smartt to a one-year deal on Monday.
Smartt went undrafted in 2022 out of Old Dominion and signed with the Chargers, where he spent his first three NFL seasons. He played last year for the New York Jets.
Across his career, Smartt has played 53 games (seven starts). The 6-foot-4 Smartt played quarterback in college, earning First-Team JUCO All-American honors at Riverside City in 2018. He won the NJCAA Athletic Bureau Offensive Player of the Year that year before transferring to Old Dominion in 2019.
After spending two years playing quarterback for the Monarchs, Smartt transitioned to tight end in 2021 where he had 17 grabs for 167 yards in his lone college season at the position.
Smartt has 38 catches for 432 yards and one touchdown throughout his NFL career, setting career-highs in grabs (16) and yards (208) with the Chargers in 2024. He is an athletic player (he ran a 4.62 second 40-yard dash at his Pro Day) who is looking to continue rounding out his game.
Smartt joins a tight end room with Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, Johnny Mundt, Cameron Latu, E.J. Jenkins, and Jaheim Bell. They are led by Run Game Coordinator/Tight Ends Coach Ryan Mahaffey, who is in his first season in the role.
