Eagles Release CB Brandon Hughes

The Eagles released veteran cornerback Brandon Hughes on Saturday. Hughes was already ruled out for Monday night's season opener with a hand injury.

No other roster move was announced which could indicate a possible return after this weekend.

Hughes has been a key player on special teams since he was signed off the Giants practice squad in 2010. He played in all 16 games in 2012 and was fifth on the team in special teams production points with 115. Hughes recovered a fumble on a kickoff return against the Saints as well as an onsides kick to open the season finale against the Giants.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Hughes suffered the injury in the third preseason game. The Eagles have five healthy cornerbacks heading into Monday's game: Cary Williams, Bradley Fletcher, Brandon Boykin, Jordan Poyer and Shaun Prater.

The only other player on the injury report for the Eagles this week was tackle Dennis Kelly, who is out with a back injury.
