Eagles announce promotions, additions to the coaching staff

The Eagles announced updates to their coaching staff on Thursday.

The Eagles announced on Thursday the following updates regarding Head Coach Nick Sirianni's staff for the 2023 season:

D.K. McDonald is now the team's Defensive Backs Coach

Hired as the team's assistant defensive backs coach in 2021, McDonald helped the Eagles finish with the No. 1 pass defense allowing just 179.8 passing yards per game last season and the No. 2 overall defense in terms of yards allowed (301.5). Both starting cornerbacks James Bradberry (All-Pro) and Darius Slay (Pro Bowl) earned individual honors for their outstanding seasons as they were the only duo to both produce 14+ pass deflections and 3+ interceptions.

Kevin Patullo is now the Pass Game Coordinator/Associate Head Coach

The team's passing game coordinator the past two seasons, Patullo aided a passing attack that ranked second in the league in receiving average and helped with the growth of quarterback Jalen Hurts, an MVP finalist who was third in the league in both passer rating (101.5) and yards per attempt (8.0). In his role, Patullo has been instrumental in assisting Sirianni in myriad ways both on and off the field since arriving in Philadelphia.

Tyler Scudder is now the team's Assistant Linebackers Coach

This is the second promotion in as many seasons for Scudder, who originally joined Sirianni's staff in 2021 as a Coaches Assistant before being elevated to Defensive Assistant last season. The Eagles set a single-season franchise record with 70 sacks in 2022 and became the first team with four different players to register 10+ sacks.

Mike DiAngelo has been named the team's Defensive Quality Control Coach

Most recently, DiAngelo served as the tight ends and receivers coach at Jacksonville State, but previously worked for six seasons at Washington & Jefferson College in a variety of roles. Sirianni's brother, Mike, is the head coach at Washington & Jefferson.

Taver Johnson has been named the team's Assistant Defensive Backs Coach

A former defensive coordinator at Temple, Johnson was the defensive pass game coordinator and safeties coach at Eastern Michigan last season. He has NFL experience working with the Las Vegas Raiders as their assistant defensive backs coach.

Ronell Williams has been named the team's Nickels Coach

A native of Chester, Pennsylvania, and a four-year letterman at West Chester University where he was a Division II All-American linebacker, Williams worked with new Defensive Coordinator Sean Desai at the Chicago Bears. This is the first time that the Eagles will have someone in this position.

Tyler Yelk has been named the team's Assistant to the Head Coach

Yelk won a National Championship both as a player and as a coach at Minnesota-Duluth, where he finished as the school's all-time leader in tackles. Yelk's stops include one on Broad Street, where he coached nickels and safeties at Temple. He was most recently the safeties coach at Idaho.
