The Philadelphia Eagles report to the Jefferson Health Training Complex for the start of 2026 Training Camp on Tuesday, July 28th. Over the next few weeks, PhiladelphiaEagles.com will get you ready by previewing the top storylines at each position. Today, a look at the quarterback position, featuring Super Bowl LIX MVP Jalen Hurts.
Did you Know?
Veteran Andy Dalton is 22nd all time in the NFL in pass completions (3,539).
Returning Starter
Jalen Hurts is coming off a 2025 campaign that saw him throw a career-high 25 passing touchdowns. The Super Bowl LIX MVP earned his third Pro Bowl selection and joined Bills quarterback Josh Allen as the only active NFL players since 2000 with at least 30 touchdowns in four consecutive seasons.
The 6-foot-1 Hurts will turn 28 during Training Camp in August, already being one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in the league with a Super Bowl ring, an All-Pro team selection, runner-up for the NFL's MVP award, and two conference championships to boot.
In the Mix
Tanner McKee enters his fourth season with the Eagles after being selected by the team in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Stanford.
After serving as the No. 3 quarterback for his first two years in the league, McKee was the primary backup to Hurts last season. In 2025, the 6-foot-6 quarterback started Week 18 against the Washington Commanders in place of Hurts, completing 21 out of 40 passes for 241 yards and one touchdown.
While McKee won the No. 2 job over Dorian Thompson-Robinson and 2025 sixth-round pick Kyle McCord last Training Camp, he will be joined by two new faces this year.
New to the Nest
The Eagles acquired veteran signal-caller Andy Dalton from the Carolina Panthers earlier this offseason in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. Entering his 16th year in the league, the Eagles will be Dalton's sixth NFL team.
Nicknamed "the Red Rifle," the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback brings a wealth of experience into the Eagles' quarterback room. In his 15 NFL seasons, Dalton is 26th in NFL history (7th among active players) with 39,373 passing yards and tied for 27th (9th among active players) with 254 touchdowns while starting 169 regular-season games.
On the opposite end of the experience spectrum, rookie Cole Payton will be competing for a roster spot. The Eagles drafted the 6-foot-6 quarterback this offseason in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft out of North Dakota State.
Payton spent five years in North Dakota, becoming the team's starter in his senior year. In his lone season as the starter, Payton threw for 2,719 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions with a 71.9% completion percentage. A dangerous runner, the Nebraska native also recorded 777 rushing yards and a whopping 13 touchdowns on the ground his senior year.
Bird Call
New Quarterbacks Coach Parks Frazier on Jalen Hurts: "He is dedicated to winning and wants to do whatever it takes to win more than any quarterback that I've been around. He is phenomenal in the room, asks really good questions. Always wanted more. He's a sponge, so he's been great."
