Game Recap: Broncos 21, Eagles 17 | Week 5

The Eagles lose their first game of the season to the Broncos.

The Eagles led by as many as 14 in the fourth quarter, but fell to the Denver Broncos at home, 21-17, for their first loss of the season.

Here's how it happened:

1st Quarter

4th-and-12 at PHI 37 (6:53)

  • The Broncos strike first with a 55-yard field goal from Will Lutz. Denver went 32 yards on 12 plays to open the scoring (Eagles 0 – Broncos 3)

4th-and-8 at DEN 13 (:32)

  • Field Goal! Jake Elliott makes a 31-yard field goal to tie the game. Philadelphia went 70 yards on 12 plays, with chunk gains from Brown, Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, and Grant Calcaterra. (Eagles 3 – Broncos 3)

2nd Quarter

3rd-and-8 at PHI 34 (12:38)

  • SACK! Za'Darius Smith comes up with a 13-yard sack on 3rd down, booting the Broncos outside of field goal range. The Eagles take over after a Denver punt.

  • TOUCHDOWN! The Eagles take the lead with a 2-yard pass to Dallas Goedert from Jalen Hurts. The drive was highlighted by a 52-yard pass to DeVonta Smith on 3rd-and-17, followed by a 24-yard pass interference forced by A.J. Brown on reigning Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II. The Eagles went 90 yards on seven plays (Eagles 10 – 3)

3rd Quarter

2nd-and-4 at DEN 47 (13:32)

  • TOUCHDOWN! Jalen Hurts finds Saquon Barkley down the right sideline for a 47-yard touchdown on a perfectly floated pass. DeVonta Smith had a 23-yard reception early in the drive as the Eagles lead by double digits. (Eagles 17 - Broncos 3)

3rd-and-21 at PHI 48 (8:16)

  • Third Down Stop! The Eagles hold the Broncos on 3rd-and-21 and force a Denver punt. The Broncos were in field goal range, but an intentional grounding pushed Denver back.

4th Quarter

1st-and-goal at PHI 2 (13:16)

  • The Broncos cut into their deficit with a 2-yard touchdown run from J.K. Dobbins. Denver went 64 yards on the drive to make it a one possession game. (Eagles 17 – Broncos 10)

1st-and-10 at PHI 11 (7:43)

  • The Broncos take the lead with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Evan Engram. Denver converts the two-point conversion. The Broncos went 72 yards on six plays. (Eagles 17 – Broncos 18)

3rd-and-2 at PHI 29 (2:27)

  • The Eagles get the stop on third down, but an unnecessary roughness penalty on Zack Baun gives the Broncos a first down.

4th-and-18 at PHI 13 (1:14)

  • Will Lutz kicks a 36-yard field goal to give the Broncos a four-point lead. The Eagles will get the ball with over a minute remaining and no timeouts left. (Eagles 17 – Broncos 21)

2nd-and-10 at DEN 29 (:04)

  • The Eagles' Hail Mary attempt falls incomplete as Philadelphia takes its first loss of the season. (Eagles 21 - Broncos 17)

WR DeVonta Smith

Smith posted a season-high 114 receiving yards on eight catches, including a 52-yard deep ball from Jalen Hurts.

LB Zack Baun

Baun had a team-best 12 tackles, including one sack. He was active throughout the game and had two quarterback hits.
