LOS ANGELES – It ended with an interception at the Los Angeles 2-yard line, a fifth giveaway of the game for an Eagles team that has long been among the very best teams in the league at ball security, and in this instance, on this Monday night at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, it cost Philadelphia a chance to score the winning points.
Final score: Los Angeles Chargers 22, Eagles 19 in overtime.
There were many things that stood out about this game for the Eagles, now 8-5 and still leading the NFC East with the Raiders coming to town on Sunday. Here are some observations ...
1. Philadelphia's defense played lights out
The front dominated the line of scrimmage, sacking quarterback Justin Herbert a career-high seven times and pressuring him on 68 percent of his dropbacks, a tremendous number. Jaelan Phillips, Jordan Davis (1.5 sacks), Moro Ojomo, Byron Young (1.5 sacks), Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt (2.5 sacks) – they all won big time up front. Zack Baun and Nakobe Dean were excellent in the blitz game. The Eagles gave up some costly ground yards – Herbert, playing with a cast on his broken left hand, had 66 yards on 10 carries and he came up big late in the fourth quarter and in overtime with his legs. Omarion Hampton had a big 18-yard run in OT.
Other than that, the defense was lights out. Truly dominating at the line of scrimmage.
2. In the secondary, Cooper DeJean and Adoree' Jackson were really good
Kudos to the guys on the back end, too. Marcus Epps started at safety and played well. The tackling on this night was excellent. Cooper DeJean shut down dangerous slot receiver Ladd McConkey – he had one catch for 12 yards on five targets. Jackson had the interception and two passes defensed. Great job.
3. Saquon Barkley had it going on
The running game showed some very positive signs, and Saquon Barkley led the way with 122 yards on 20 carries, including a 52-yard touchdown on a fake Tush Push (presented by DUDE Wipes). Hurts pitched left to Barkley on a third-and-1 play on the first play of the fourth quarter and Barkley followed blocks from Jordan Mailata, Darius Cooper, and Dallas Goedert. The Eagles had success running to the edges, with Hurts under center a decent amount of the time.
4. Britain Covey gives the return game a boost
Give Britain Covey some love – he's tough, he's elusive, and he has quickness and moves. He averaged 18 yards on three punt returns and did damage in the open field. It was a nice boost and something to look forward to in this last month of the regular season. The Eagles have a weapon in the punt return game and that is going to pay dividends.
5. 5 giveaways from the Eagles' offense
There were some freak moments, like the play in the first half when the Eagles were in Los Angeles territory, third-and-3 at the Chargers' 21-yard line, and Jalen Hurts was picked off by Da'Shawn Hand on a pass over the middle intended for running back Will Shipley and then Hand had the ball stripped away, recovered by Hurts, who then fumbled the ball back to the Chargers at their 43-yard line. That counted as two of the giveaways and the Chargers turned the takeaway into three points.
The fifth turnover was the final play of the game when Hurts, with pressure in his face and rolling right, saw wide receiver Jahan Dotson break open near the goal line with tight end Dallas Goedert running an underneath route. Cornerback Cam Hart, in coverage on Goedert, peeled off underneath Dotson and reached out and tipped Hurts' pass and Los Angeles safety Tony Jefferson grabbed the ball for the interception to end the game.
In the final game of Week 14 of the 2025 NFL season, the two winningest active head coaches in Nick Sirianni and Jim Harbaugh square off as the 8-4 Eagles are in Los Angeles to take on the 8-4 Chargers in a game with huge playoff implications.

6. The winning formula did not add up on this night
All season, the Eagles have been winning by limiting their turnovers and scoring touchdowns in the red zone. Philadelphia forced three takeaways – one on that wacky play in the first half – and that discrepancy came back to cost the Eagles. And the inability to put the ball in the end zone inside the 20-yard line – the one time late in the first half and then at the end of the game – obviously made the difference on the scoreboard.
