Five times Nick Sirianni has opened an Eagles regular season, and five times the Eagles have emerged with a victory that, ultimately, helped the team reach the postseason. Each of the games had its storylines. Each of the games had its unique nature.

And each of the games started the season off the right way for the Eagles – a 5-0 record in regular-season openers. There is nothing to suggest that those results play into Sunday's 2026 opener against Washington at Lincoln Financial Field other than the very real data that Sirianni has had unblemished success preparing the Eagles to open his first five seasons as head coach.

As we all look ahead with tremendous anticipation for Sunday and the visit from the Washington Commanders, let's take a moment to look back at the most recent five openers in which the Eagles have emerged victorious.

September 12, 2021

Eagles 32, Falcons 6

What a way to begin a head coaching career! The Eagles went on the road and overwhelmed Atlanta, rushing for 173 yards and a touchdown and riding Jalen Hurts' huge game – he completed 27 of 35 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns. As good as the offense was, the defense was just as dominating, limiting the Falcons to a 3-of-14 performance on third down and just 260 total net yards. The Eagles led 15-6 at the half and then overwhelmed Atlanta in the second half, outscoring the Falcons 17-0.

September 11, 2022

Eagles 38, Lions 35

Incredible game! The Eagles scored 24 points in the second quarter and 14 in the third quarter and then withstood a furious Detroit rally in the fourth quarter to win a second straight season-opening game on the road. The running game led the way with 216 yards and four touchdowns on 39 attempts and Jalen Hurts connected with wide receiver A.J. Brown 10 times for 155 yards to lead the Eagles' passing game. The teams combined for more than 800 total net yards of offense in the wild opener. Philadelphia secured the win by executing its four-minute offense to perfection – eating the final 3 minutes, 51 seconds of the game clock with seven running plays to gain two first downs and finish things off with a Hurts kneeldown. It was a fireworks kind of game as the Eagles started their NFC Championship-winning season the right way.

September 10, 2023

Eagles 25, Patriots 20

On the road a third straight time to open the regular season under Sirianni, the Eagles raced out to a 16-0 advantage in the first quarter thanks to a 14-play, 61-yard drive to open things, and then a Darius Slay 70-yard interception return for a touchdown and a Jalen Hurts touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith after another defensive takeaway. But ... the lead evaporated quickly and by halftime the Eagles led only 16-14. The Eagles moved the ball in the second half but couldn't put the ball into the end zone, instead living on Jake Elliott's right leg. He connected on kicks from 56, 48, and 51 yards to put points on the board and keep the Eagles in front. The game went down to the wire, with the Eagles holding on as New England failed to convert a fourth down in the red zone.

September 6, 2024

Eagles 34, Packers 29

A spectacular way to open the season – the NFL's first game in South America (São Paulo, Brazil), in prime time, against the Packers, and with running back Saquon Barkley making his Eagles' debut – the Eagles went back and forth with Green Bay and emerged victorious to set the tone for a World Championship season.

Philadelphia turned the football over on its first two possessions and Green Bay jumped out in front 6-0. Keys there? The Eagles had two holds in the red zone, giving Jalen Hurts and Co. time to get into a flow. And the offense certainly did just that – scoring three touchdowns and a field goal on its next four possessions to take control of the football game – if only marginally. It was a great football game and filled with action and big plays and, yes, Barkley lived up to the hype. He scored three touchdowns, two on the ground, and the Eagles had a three-phase victory against a high-quality team. The Eagles clinched things in the very final seconds of the game after Jake Elliott's field goal made it 34-29 with the defense knocking quarterback Jordan Love out of the game and ending it with a Zack Baun sack of Malik Willis to set off a wild celebration in São Paulo.

Eagles 24, Cowboys 20

A season opener at home! Of course, that's what World Champions do!

Following an emotional World Championship banner unveiling at Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles and Cowboys got down to business in a game that twisted and turned and eventually went in the Eagles' favor after a long weather delay. Both teams put points on the board on each of their combined seven offensive possessions and then the Eagles opened the second half with a field goal drive. Weather interrupted the game and when the teams returned to the field after more than an hour in the locker rooms, the defenses dominated. Vic Fangio's group stymied Dallas on its final possession as a fourth-and-3 pass to CeeDee Lamb was incomplete and the Eagles gained one first down in the final two minutes on offense to secure the NFC East victory. The ground game churned out 158 yards and three touchdowns and Hurts completed 19 of 23 passes. The defense limited quarterback Dak Prescott to 188 passing yards in the win, delighting the crowd that hung in there through the inclement weather.
