In the context of building a roster, Eagles Executive Vice President of Football Operations/ General Manager Howie Roseman has said it time and time again: It all starts inside and then moves outside.

The Eagles are a team that structures a roster "from the inside out," and that includes, very much so, a commitment to the defensive tackle room. Roseman made it a priority to sign star tackles Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter to long-term contracts in the offseason.

"That's the way we have done things for a long time," Roseman said. "Keep as many talented players as possible. We can't keep them all. Building at the line of scrimmage, inside, that has always been a priority for us."

Indeed, the Eagles continue that philosophy and one peek at the current roster reveals just how important the defensive tackle position is to this football team: The team has players on the roster in that room and all could offer significant roles in the season ahead.

Jalen Carter

The team's No. 1 draft pick in 2023, Carter is healthy and hungry after injuries marred his 2025 campaign. A game-wrecker in the World Championship season of 2024, Carter combines incredible skills with a high level of playing intelligence to win inside. Carter played only 11 games last season and was still given the respect of earning a second Pro Bowl nod. Carter demands double teams on virtually every snap of the football and wins against even those twosomes with his variety of moves, his strength, and his explosiveness.

Jordan Davis

A first-round draft pick in 2022, Davis has worked hard to develop into a three-down defensive tackle – as evidenced by his career-high 686 snaps (61 percent of defensive snaps) played last season. In 2025, Davis recorded career highs in total tackles (72, second-highest among DTs last season in the NFL), total pressures (22), tackles for loss (9), passes defensed (6, tied for second among NFL DTs with Carter), and quarterback sacks (4.5). Davis is on an upward trajectory and is expected to be a dominant player this season as well.

Moro Ojomo

Talk about maximizing an opportunity! Ojomo was a seventh-round draft pick in 2023 and built himself into an impact defensive tackle who last season recorded six quarterback sacks, 12 quarterback hits, and 29 quarterback pressures. Ojomo is more than just a third option at defensive tackle. He has versatility and plays the run physically as well.

Byron Young

Here is a tip of the cap to the Eagles' personnel department working in conjunction with the coaching staff: Young was a third-round draft pick by Las Vegas in 2023 who was waived by the Raiders in 2024 and claimed by Philadelphia. The Eagles clearly liked him going into that 2023 NFL Draft and took a flyer on him the next season. Defensive Line/Senior Defensive Assistant/Associate Head Coach Clint Hurtt worked with Young and, lo and behold, Young showed up in 2025 and played 30 percent of the defensive snaps, contributing 2.5 quarterback sacks, 37 total tackles, and 10 quarterback pressures. Young is a key part of this defensive tackle rotation and is one of those players who works hard, isn't flashy, and just goes out and gets the job done as the Eagles want it executed.

Ty Robinson

The second-year defensive tackle came on strong in the preseason as the Eagles hoped he would. You see the pattern here: The Eagles acquire a defensive tackle they like and then develop him and he steps in and keeps the level of play high at the position. Robinson was a fourth-round draft pick in 2025 (111th overall) and played very little in his rookie campaign. But he worked hard and developed his game and is now in position, after a very productive preseason that earned the trust of the coaching staff, to contribute to the defense in 2026.

Defensive tackle is not the most glamorous position, nor is it the room that is for the faint of football heart. It is a tough, gritty, down-and-dirty position that the Eagles have long valued as one that defines success at the line of scrimmage.

You see it with the way the Eagles build along both sides of the line of scrimmage, at quarterback, and then out to the edges. With Washington coming to town on Sunday featuring what is expected to be a powerful running game, a dynamic quarterback in Jayden Daniels, and every bit of interest in mixing it up and being physical as befits an NFC East battle, the Eagles are counting on the defensive tackle rotation to set the tone in Week 1.

That's the way the Eagles do things, and the results on the football field speak volumes.
