CLEVELAND --The Eagles did a lot of good things in Friday night's 27-10 win in Cleveland, and the positives far outweighed the negatives.
Who made a big roster move? Who dropped? We take a look back at the victory ...
- DENNIS KELLY, OT: The fifth-round draft pick started at right tackle and did a solid job. He missed a couple of blocks and probably will look back and know he has to be more technically sound in some areas of his game, but Dennis Kelly showed good athletic ability and reach. He's a huge body, and he played big. It would not be a surprise if offensive line coach Howard Mudd continues working very closely with Kelly.
- BRANDON GRAHAM, DE:A very strong summer continued for Brandon Graham. He was in the backfield all night against Cleveland, showing an extremely quick first stop and an array of moves. Graham continues to fight for his job and for extended playing time.
- PHILLIP THOMAS, S:Who is the third safety on this football team? Oshiomogho Atogwe didn't play because of a hamstring injury, so Phillip Thomas stepped up and played very well in coverage. He had a couple of pass breakups and got to the ball well. Was in coverage on a 3-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone in the fourth quarter.
- DAMARIS JOHNSON, WR/KR:It's going to be tough keeping Damaris Johnson off this 53-man roster. He had a 30-yard punt return, his second big return in three games. Johnson also had a pair of catches for 58 yards, beating former Eagle Sheldon Brown down the field. Johnson caught the ball well, made moves and played fast.
- DEREK LANDRI, DT:You watch Derek Landri play and wonder how in the world the rest of the league basically ignored him in free agency. Landri was dominating, again, against Cleveland. He put an end to Cleveland's first drive by crashing the pocket, sacking quarterback Brandon Weeden and forcing a fumble that Trent Cole recovered. Landri could not be blocked all game. He deserves to start with this defense.
- RYAN RAU, LB:Taking advantage of Casey Matthews' absence (high ankle sprain), Ryan Rau had himself a whale of a ballgame. He forced a fumble early that the Eagles turned into a touchdown and was in the backfield the entire game.
- NNAMDI ASOMUGHA, CB:Cleveland went right at Nnamdi Asomugh early and had a couple of completions. Asomugha had nice coverage on Josh Gordon on a sideline catch and then seemed to hesitate just a bit on a red-zone pass. Look for Cleveland to test Asomugha on September 9.
- MATT McBRIAR, P:The battle continues between Matt McBriar and Chas Henry. Each had an inside-the-20 punt -- McBriar's was downed at the 1-yard line -- during a quiet evening for them. McBriar was the holder on Alex Henery's missed 41-yard field goal, which went left. Henry had a touchback in the fourth quarter.
- TRENT EDWARDS, QB:The veteran quarterback is making things very interesting. He led a touchdown drive to open the second half by completing all five of his passes, including a touchdown pass to tight end Brett Brackett. He completed his first 9 passes in all. Edwards looks composed and completely in control on the field. Can Edwards make this team?
- DARRYL TAPP, DE:Working against standout tackle Joe Thomas, Darryl Tapp recorded a quarterback sack and played in the Browns backfield. Tapp continues to play with great energy and has been extremely productive through three preseason games.
- BRETT BRACKETT, TE:It was great to see Brett Brackett get involved in the passing game, because he has come such a long way in a short period of time. Brackett showed great effort on his 4-yard touchdown catch and lunge and actually had another good catch and run nullified because of a penalty. It's going to be tough for Brackett to make the 53-man roster, but he's got a chance to be a practice squad player.
- CHRIS POLK, RB:Could the Eagles possibly carry four running backs? Chris Polk stated his case with 39 rushing yards on 6 carries in the fourth quarter, including a 20-yarder. He and Bryce Brown look like they both can play and play well in this league.
