The Eagles placed offensive lineman Nate Menkin on injured reserve Saturday with a throat injury and promoted practice squad linebacker Ryan Rau to the 53-man active roster. Head coach Andy Reid described Menkin's injury Friday as a throat cartilage tear, which was suffered in practice earlier in the week. Menkin, an undrafted rookie out of Mary Hardin-Baylor, was signed at the beginning of the season after he was released by the Houston Texans during the final roster cutdown. He was inactive for every game this season.
The promotion caps an impressive rise for Rau, who originally joined the Eagles as a tryout player during the spring rookie camps. He then earned a roster spot and continued to impress during Training Camp and the preseason and has spent the entire season on the practice squad. A rookie free agent out of Portland State, Rau, 6-1, 230, becomes the sixth linebacker on the active roster.
