Friday night's lengthy trip across the pond for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London gave the Eagles' players and coaches a chance to pause after a long, unusual, and extremely active week – as unique as any this football team has had in-season in a long, long time.

On the heels of a tough loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles launched into their preparations for the Jags knowing that injuries would be a factor in setting the lineup for Week 5 – but after that, the days and the roster took an abrupt turn – right tackle Lane Johnson retired on Tuesday and the Eagles traded center/left guard Cam Jurgens on Wednesday.

And here we are, with an international game against the 3-1 Jaguars and plenty of storylines to follow ...

1. An opportunity for young players along the offensive line

This is a new look for the Eagles – like, four days of a new look. As it stands now, subject to change, the offensive line would theoretically look like this: Jordan Mailata at left tackle, Willie Lampkin at left guard, Jake Majors at center, Tyler Steen at right guard, and Markel Bell at right tackle. You know Mailata, the veteran and star of this group. Lampkin, the fans are all about. He was claimed off of waivers from the Rams last year and spent the season on Injured Reserve and then played very well in the preseason. Majors played collegiately at Texas and then signed with Tampa Bay after the 2025 NFL Draft, was cut and then signed with the Eagles' practice squad. He has taken the first-team practice reps with Drew Kendall rehabbing a knee injury. Steen is the starter at right guard and Bell, much more comfortable with a week of reps under his belt, is at right tackle. This is as raw and inexperienced a group along the offensive line of scrimmage as the Eagles have had in a long, long time.

2. Welcome, Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele

Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby are out for Sunday, so the Eagles need help at running back. Will Shipley is likely to get the start and the heavier workload in the backfield, and then the Eagles could look at Pierce, the former Houston Texan who has 1,684 rushing yards and five touchdowns in his NFL portfolio. The Eagles also signed Carson Steele to the active roster from the practice squad. This is why Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman and Head Coach Nick Sirianni look at the practice squad as part of the roster.

It's Eagles Everywhere as fans invaded the Goldwood Pub in London. The first of two Eagles Pep Rallies featured Eagles legends Brian Westbrook and Jay Ajayi, SWOOP, and the Eagles Cheerleaders! American Airlines provided exclusive access and a private VIP section, while Visit PA offered fans a chance to win a special trip to Pennsylvania.

3. Third down in the spotlight again

What adjustments have been made to the offensive structure? Given the injuries and the changes to the offensive line, what exactly can the Eagles actually change on such short notice? The Eagles want to be disciplined and technically efficient in this one. They want to keep the offense on the field with sustained drives and move-the-sticks production. Staying on schedule is a critical to-do for quarterback Jalen Hurts and his offensive mates, still without wide receiver DeVonta Smith. His return would be a huge boost to the offense.

4. Roster depth tested all around

It isn't just the offense being challenged by injuries. Safety Marcus Epps is battling a groin injury and is out. Outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard has an ankle injury and is questionable despite not practicing all week. Outside linebacker A.J. Epenesa (back) was added to the injury report on Friday. Cornerback Quinyon Mitchell practiced all week after leaving the Rams game because of a knee injury, and is good to go for Sunday. Linebacker Zack Baun cleared the concussion protocol, paving the way for his return. Linebacker Jihaad Campbell was limited earlier in the week, but is slated to play, dealing with a knee injury.

5. Jacksonville led by its defense

This is a very, very good defense that is ranked second in the NFL against the run (74.3 yards per game), is second in red zone defense (4 touchdowns in 14 visits, a 28.6 percentage, with an interception in three straight games), and is second in points per game allowed (13.3 points per game). The Jags are sound, very physical, and experienced. The Jags have had 10 straight games in which they have allowed 20 or fewer points.

6. Near the 50-yard line, the Jaguars can score

The task is real for the Eagles' defense against quarterback Trevor Lawrence, an outstanding running game, and some explosive receivers for many reasons, including the presence of placekicker Cam Little, who holds the NFL record with a 68-yard field goal. He is 7-of-9 on his attempts this season and has been good on all 11 PAT kicks. Jacksonville is strong on special teams and will be a true test for the Eagles, whose special teams unit had a dominant game last Sunday against the Rams.
