The Eagles were on the practice field Tuesday in what was a short but crisp session (helmets, but no pads or shells) ahead of Thursday's preseason opener. Here is who stood out:
Highlights
- Jalen Hurts had one of his better practices, finding a bunch of different receivers and connecting on tough throws. He delivered a perfect high-point pass to Dallas Goedert for a touchdown in a red zone 7-on-7 period and later hit Jahan Dotson in the back of the end zone during a red zone situational team drill. Hurts was hyped after his toss to Dotson.
- Speaking of Dotson, he had one of his best practices of Training Camp, adding a beautiful catch near the goal line on a tightly run out route to gain separation. His connection with Hurts is heating up after the two spent time this offseason throwing together.
- Johnny Wilson continues a strong run of practices. He made a catch over the middle and on the next play had a clear-out block after a Saquon Barkley checkdown.
- Kelee Ringo had a pass breakup while covering DeVonta Smith, undercutting a short crossing route over the middle. He almost picked it off on the bobble but couldn't haul it in.
- Barkley had a 10-yard touchdown catch over the middle on a perfect throw from Hurts during a situational team period. Barkley has seen a good deal of action in the pass game during Training Camp.
- Will Shipley continues to be a weapon catching the ball. He took a 7-yard pass to the 3-yard line and on the next play Tanner McKee rolled to his right and found him for the score, allowing the second-team offense to get off the field after two plays.
- Another day, another DeVonta Smith wow catch. The wide receiver ran a stop route out of a stacked formation, then went out and up, and Hurts put plenty of air under the ball, allowing Smitty to come up with the grab for the 30-yard touchdown.
- Cooper DeJean had an interception off Hurts in the end zone. Hurts was under pressure and threw the ball up off his back foot, resulting in the interception.
- Moro Ojomo had a would-be-sack towards the end of practice as he and Jalyx Hunt worked a stunt. Ojomo continues to be a standout this summer.
- Elijah Cooks made plays once again. He turned a 5-yard catch into a 20-yard touchdown by cutting back outside after the slant from the left side to lose his defender. After the score, he brought in a two-point conversion on a slant, lining up on the right side of the formation.
- Darius Cooper caught a touchdown on a perfect throw from McKee. ... Keilan Robinson had a touchdown catch where he reached over the goal line. ... Andrew Mukuba had a pass breakup during team drills.

Position Preview: Running Back
The reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year in Saquon Barkley was asked early in Training Camp why there hasn't been a player to rush for 2,000 yards in consecutive seasons.
"It's only nine of us who have ever done it," Barkley said. "The reason why it's hard to do it twice is because it's hard to do it the first time.
"For me, 2,000 yards isn't the goal. It's winning a Super Bowl and going out there to perform at a high level. I didn't come in with the mindset last year to run for 2,000 yards; it just happened. Just stay in the moment, take care of the little things, be consistent with our process, and be obsessive with our process."
Just one year after his historic debut campaign with the Eagles, Barkley signed a two-year extension as a reward for what he did both on and off the field. In Training Camp, Barkley has remained spry, bringing juice to practice not only with his ability, but also with his willingness to mix it up with the defensive players to increase the intensity.
Will Shipley had 38 total offensive touches as a rookie, including playoffs, but displayed the ability to affect the game as both as a rusher and as a receiver. His ability to get out to the edge and into space adds another dimension to the offensive attack. He's prime for a larger role in his second season.
The Eagles signed veteran A.J. Dillon in free agency. Prior to missing 2024 due to injury, Dillon gained 2,428 yards (4.1 yards per carry), caught 86 passes, and scored 18 total touchdowns. Physically, he brings a powerback element with his 6-foot, 247-pound frame. There's a reason he's nicknamed Quadzilla.
Ben VanSumeren is the only fullback on the roster. He transitioned into that role last season, while still handling linebacker duties. The Eagles approached him this offseason about making it his full-time position and VanSumeren gladly obliged. It's a role he had in college, so it'll be interesting to see how the coaches leverage it in 2025.
Montell Johnson and ShunDerrick Powell were both signed by the Eagles following the NFL Draft. Keilan Robinson is a former draft pick of the Jaguars, who the Eagles claimed off waivers. Robinson brings return experience to the table as well.
Injury Report
A.J. Brown (hamstring), Zack Baun (back), Montrell Johnson (hamstring), and Byron Young (groin) all missed practice. Everyone else was at least limited in some capacity.
