The Eagles announced on Saturday that they have elevated wide receiver and return specialist Britain Covey for Sunday's season opener against the Washington Commanders. The team also downgraded rookie tight end Eli Stowers to out due to quadriceps and hamstring injuries and subsequently placed him on Injured Reserve.
WR Britain Covey
A rookie free agent in 2022, Britain Covey has played in 44 regular-season games and five playoff games. This marks the sixth time in his career that he has been elevated from the practice squad.
Covey adds depth and experience to both the receiver and punt returner positions. In 2023, Covey led the NFL with 417 punt return yards and was the only player in the league to post multiple punt returns of 50+ yards.
TE Eli Stowers
The team's second-round pick out of Vanderbilt suffered a hamstring injury during the second preseason game at New England. He missed the preseason finale and was a limited participant in practice this week. The Eagles listed Stowers as questionable on Friday's final injury report before the team downgraded him to out on Saturday with quadriceps and hamstring injuries.
Stowers was the winner of the John Mackey Award as the best tight end in college football last season after catching 62 passes for 769 yards and four touchdowns.
Stowers joins veteran Grant Calcaterra on Injured Reserve. The Eagles now have three tight ends on the active roster in Dallas Goedert, Johnny Mundt, and E.J. Jenkins.
