After being placed on the Reserve/Retired list at the start of Training Camp, Matt Leo was named as a defensive and football operations assistant on Monday.

Leo joined the Eagles as part of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program in 2000 and spent three seasons on the practice squad.

Born in Adelaide, Australia, the 6-foot-7, 280-pound Leo played rugby and Australian Rules Football through high school.

After graduating, Leo entered the trades and became a plumber, working as an apprentice on construction sites. Tired of the extreme heat and maneuvering his massive frame in tight spaces, Leo tried his hand at American football and earned a walk-on spot at Arizona Western Community College through workout tapes. He parlayed his time at Arizona Western to a scholarship at Iowa State, where he totaled 33 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks in 29 career games.

Leo spent the past three seasons honing his craft and aiding his teammates for gamedays. Now, he'll do the same in a new role.

Can you believe that more than 50,000 fans turned out for Sunday night's Public Practice at Lincoln Financial Field?!? When it comes to Eagles fans, nothing should surprise you. Check out some of the best photos from a fun night in South Philadelphia.
