Eagles-Giants Game Status Report: Zach Ertz ruled out with injured ribs, back

The Eagles will be without their leading pass catcher on Sunday in the regular-season finale against the New York Giants.

The team officially ruled out tight end Zach Ertz, who suffered back and ribs injuries in last Sunday's win over Dallas. Ertz was hurt in the first quarter, but returned to finish the game. Ertz was critical to the Eagles' overtime win over the Giants on December 9 when he had the game-tying and game-winning touchdown receptions.

This will be the first game Ertz misses due to injury since December 10, 2017 against the Los Angeles Rams. Ertz's streak of 34 consecutive starts is the second-longest in the league among tight ends.

Tight end Dallas Goedert stepped up with Ertz ailing last Sunday catching nine receptions for 91 yards, both career highs, and a touchdown. The Eagles have Joshua Perkins and signed veteran Richard Rodgers this week to add depth at tight end.

Wide receiver Nelson Agholor will be out for the fifth time in six games with a knee injury. The Eagles promoted Deontay Burnett from the practice squad to the active roster this week to give them four available wide receivers: J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Burnett, Robert Davis, and Greg Ward.

Tackle Lane Johnson did not practice all week, but is questionable with an ankle injury. Halapoulivaati Vaitai will start at right tackle if Johnson can't play.

Cornerback Jalen Mills is also questionable. He was limited all week with an ankle injury he suffered in the win over Dallas. The Eagles are already without Ronald Darby, who was placed on Injured Reserve this week with a hip flexor injury. Head coach Doug Pederson said that Rasul Douglas will start opposite Mills, but Sidney Jones is in the mix if Mills can't suit up.

Running back Jordan Howard was cleared for contact on Thursday, so he practiced fully for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury November 3 against Chicago. Howard is good to go, but Pederson said that Howard will be the No. 3 running back behind Miles Sanders and Boston Scott.

The Giants will be without starting tight end Scott Simonson due to concussion. Kaden Smith is the only available tight end currently on the active roster.

Starting right tackle Mike Remmers is also out due to a concussion.

Three key members of the defense are questionable: cornerback Corey Ballentine (back), linebacker Alec Ogletree (back), and cornerback Sam Beal (shoulder).
