There was "uncertainty," tight end Dallas Goedert admits. In the weeks and months after winning Super Bowl LIX, Goedert felt "a lot of emotions" about his status for the 2025 season with the Eagles, but that is all resolved. It is completely secure.
Goedert is "super stoked" to be a huge part of the Eagles' offense once again. And that's that.
"I'm excited that we were able to get something done and I could come back here to a place where I'm really comfortable and be with a lot of people that I've got a lot of love for," Goedert said. "I'm glad to be back."
Well, Goedert never left, and the fact is, he represents a significant piece of the offensive puzzle here both as a tackle-breaking player after the catch and as an in-line blocker and, truly, an all-around tight end who contributes in so many ways. We saw that in the team's playoff run last season when Goedert led the Eagles with 17 receptions for 215 yards and a touchdown – the Stiff Arm Special against Green Bay – in the course of four games on the way to the World Championship.
And Goedert expects to be every bit the vital player again in 2025.
"I'm excited to see what happens this year, excited to put up a really good year," Goedert said. "Have a successful year with an incredible team. I'll be the best player I can be, the best teammate I can be."
Injuries in 2024 limited Goedert to 10 games played and 42 receptions, so a key goal is to stay on the field and contribute in the multitude of ways that Goedert does. Goedert returns with an offense that is back and largely intact – only the right guard spot is open from last season.
So what does that mean for the Eagles? It means, as the coaching staff pieces together the scheme and then goes into each week with a game plan, that the Eagles have a top, top weapon at the tight end spot who has chemistry with quarterback Jalen Hurts and knows the run game blocking scheme.
Goedert would like to take his game to a new level, however that manifests itself. His presence presents matchup problems for the defense, as it has in the past. An offense that played its very best football with Goedert on the field in the playoffs – a conference-championship record 55 points against Washington in the NFC Championship Game and 40 in just over three quarters in the Super Bowl – looks for more potency and consistency moving forward.
And the great news is that, after those times of not being sure of his next steps, Goedert is going to be part of it. The good times continue to roll and Goedert is thrilled to be part of it all.
"It's great to be here with this team and we're all working hard for what is in front of us," Goedert said. "That's our focus and that's all that matters."
