The Eagles are bringing back offensive tackle Fred Johnson, agreeing to terms on a one-year contract.

Johnson played his last three seasons in Philadelphia, appearing in every regular-season game. He departed for the Jaguars in the 2025 offseason, but the Eagles made a trade to bring him back as their swing tackle before Week 1.

Johnson made 14 starts over the past two years. In 2024, he stepped in mostly for an injured Jordan Mailata at left tackle, and last season, he started the back half of the year in place of right tackle Lane Johnson.

When given the opportunity to start, Fred Johnson has proved more than capable — he surrendered just two sacks in nearly 400 pass blocking snaps last year, according to Pro Football Focus.

Johnson entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2019 out of the University of Florida. He initially signed with the Steelers but had his first extended stay with the Cincinnati Bengals, playing for them from 2019-21. He played part of the 2022 season with the Buccaneers before joining Philadelphia's practice squad.

The Eagles return all five of their offensive line starters in 2026, but Johnson provides strong depth to a room that lost veterans Brett Toth (49ers) and Matt Pryor (Cardinals) in free agency. — Written by Matt Ryan
