Kelee Ringo: 'Short-term memory is a big part of the game'

The Eagles’ cornerback reflects on his interception in the preseason opener against the Ravens.

BALTIMORE – Up 7-0 with 35 seconds left in the first half, the Ravens looked poised to extend their lead entering halftime with a first-and-goal at the Eagles' 5-yard line.

Just a play earlier, Eagles cornerback Kelee Ringo was called for a 16-yard pass interference penalty that advanced the Ravens' offense deep into the red zone.

"The best thing I can do is focus on my next opportunity," Ringo said of the call after the game. "It just so happened to be less than 10 seconds later."

Rolling right, Ravens rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano fired towards receiver Xavier Guillory in the back of the end zone with Ringo in man-on-man coverage.

"I wanted to prevent the inside cut. So, when I realized the play, I actually let (the receiver) stay close as well as seeing the quarterback go through his progressions," Ringo said. "Getting between the quarterback and the receiver when the ball came, I made the most of my opportunity."

Ringo accelerated in front of Guillory, making an impressive grab with his fingertips while running full speed, plucking the ball out of the air for the interception before momentum took him out of the end zone.

Ringo's best play of the night came right after a setback.

"Short term memory is a big part of the game, especially as a corner," Ringo said. "Coach (Nick) Sirianni always talks about in big moments, 'You don't rise to the occasion, you fall to the structure of your habits and the things you've been doing (that) everybody else doesn't see.'"

Coach Sirianni praised Ringo for rebounding from the penalty call and coming away with the interception.

"You always want to think about being able to move on and play the next play. That's mental toughness, having the same attitude, effort, energy, and enthusiasm and so that was good. That was positive to see Kelee come back after that play and make a really nice interception," Sirianni said.

"That's a good lesson for everybody that things aren't going to go perfect. And that's football, there's going to be ups, there's going to be downs," Sirianni said. "Can you be in the situation where you're completely focused on your next opportunity?" – Written by Caroline Connor

The first live football action of the 2026 season is here for the Philadelphia Eagles as they travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens. Who will improve their case for a spot on the 53-man roster?
