DE Austen Lane Scouting Report

DE Austen Lane, Murray State
Pos. Rank: 11 Grade: 2nd-3rd Round Height: 6-5 1/2 Weight: 276 40: 4.84 Year: 5-Sr.

The Good: Well-built defensive end moving up draft boards. Plays with good lean, quickly gets his hands up to protect himself, and displays a good change of direction. Fast off the edge, immediately alters his angle of attack, and gets a lot of force moving up the field. Displays multiple moves getting off blocks, keeps his feet moving on contact, and chases the action hard.

The Bad: Struggles getting off blocks once engaged at the point and handled by large lineman. Possesses a lean build and lacks natural bulk.

The Verdict: Lane is a prospect whose game has significantly improved the past three seasons. He showed well in post season at the Senior Bowl and combine and is well thought of in the scouting community. Lane may need time to get accustomed to the speed and athleticism at the next level but offers size, growth potential, and could eventually develop into a very productive defensive end in a four-man front or as a two-gap player.
