The Eagles announced on Friday that they will have seven captains for the 2026 season. Head Coach Nick Sirianni notified the players in a team meeting on Thursday.

The 2026 Philadelphia Eagles captains are:

• Saquon Barkley (2nd season as captain with Eagles, 7th overall in NFL)
• Zack Baun (2nd season)
• Jordan Davis (1st season)
• Jalen Hurts (6th season)
• Lane Johnson (5th season)
• Jordan Mailata (3rd season)
• DeVonta Smith (2nd season)

RB Saquon Barkley

Barkley signed with the Eagles in 2024 and became just the ninth player in NFL history to amass 2,000 rushing yards in a single season, earning NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors on the way to a Super Bowl Championship.

Barkley followed that up by becoming the first Eagles running back in over a decade to rush for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons in 2025, scoring nine total touchdowns.

"He's such a pro. He's just one of those guys that studies the game," Running Backs Coach/Assistant Head Coach Jemal Singleton said. "He studies the history of the game. He's going back and watching film of former players. He's always paying attention. He's always looking at what's going on and working on things that he can do better."

LB Zack Baun

Like Barkley, Baun was added by the Eagles during the 2024 offseason and made the move from edge rusher to off-ball linebacker. To say Baun flourished is an understatement. Baun earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors for the first time in his career in 2024, posting 150 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, 3.5 sacks, and an interception in the regular season on the way to the Super Bowl. He was also a finalist for AP Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Baun was again a Pro Bowl selection in 2025, his first season as a captain, for a defense that allowed the fewest passing touchdowns and the lowest completion percentage in the league. This year, he'll add the responsibility of wearing the green dot as the signal-caller on defense.

"He can do whatever we want him to do," Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio said. "He had the experience of being the main signal-caller the first half of last year when Nakobe (Dean) was out. He'll be that now this year full time.

"Whatever we ask Zack to do, if he's not good at it right now, he'll fight through to get good at it."

DT Jordan Davis

The only first-time captain on the team, Davis parlayed a breakout 2025 season into a long-term contract this offseason. A first-round pick in 2022, Davis had career highs in tackles (72), sacks (4.5), tackles for loss (9), and passes defended (6), while playing more than 60 percent of the defensive snaps for the first time in his career.

Davis also delivered the play of the year when he blocked a field goal attempt and returned the ball for a touchdown to secure a come-from-behind win over the Los Angeles Rams.

"I think all the fruits of that labor are all starting to come to him, so I think that's just the confidence building," Defensive Line Coach/Senior Defensive Assistant/Associate Head Coach Clint Hurtt said. "He's made great strides and is still pushing for more because I know he has more in there."

QB Jalen Hurts

Sixth season as the starting quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles. Sixth season as a team captain.

Hurts is the longest-tenured captain on the team. Coming off of his third Pro Bowl season, Hurts is poised to lead the new-look offense that has been crafted by Sirianni, new Offensive Coordinator Sean Mannion, and the rest of the offensive coaches.

"One thing I love to mention about him that a lot of people don't even see and I don't even get to see, but when you talk to the coaches, everybody keeps mentioning the work he's putting in," Barkley said. "I don't think there's really anybody that can beat him into the building. And he's still the last one to leave the building. I think that's pretty cool when you have a guy who's that bought in, not just saying that he wants to be great, it takes work to be great. Takes a lot of studying, especially at the position that he is in with the job that he has to do. You want to go to war for a guy like that."

T Lane Johnson

If 2026 is going to be the 14th and final year of his Hall of Fame career, Lane Johnson will go out as a captain and deservedly so. A two-time Super Bowl Champion, a six-time Pro Bowl selection, and two-time first-team All-Pro, Johnson has redefined the value of the right tackle position and anchored a line that has ushered in a historic era of success for the franchise.

"He's a phenomenal football player, one of the best guys I've ever been around. In my opinion, (Johnson is) the best offensive lineman in the world. I can't say enough good things about Lane," Head Coach Nick Sirianni said. "I think Lane is a phenomenal leader. He's always talking and helping out the younger guys. I love the connection he has with his teammates and offensive linemen."

The longest-tenured player on the Eagles, Johnson's level of play has not diminished with age. It's almost the opposite. Before suffering a season-ending foot injury, Johnson led all NFL right tackles in pass block grade and knockdown percentage, while not allowing a single sack – he's only allowed a grand total of four QB hits since 2021. The former No. 4 overall pick in 2013, Johnson has been the Eagles' Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award winner and an instrumental force in changing the perception of the importance of mental health among professional athletes.

T Jordan Mailata

"Nobody's going to see a Jordan Mailata ever again. I mean the person, the player that that guy is, that story, it's an unbelievable story," said Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman of the third-year captain.

Drafted without ever playing football in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Mailata learned the game and became a pillar at the left tackle position since 2020, continuing a proud franchise tradition of outstanding players at the position.

The Eagles' Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2025, Mailata earned second-team All-Pro honors in the Super Bowl LIX season, is a three-time Pro Bowl alternate, and consistently ranks among the best tackles in the game, according to Pro Football Focus.

WR DeVonta Smith

A captain for the second time, the former first-round pick has surpassed 1,000 yards three times in his career and is the franchise's all-time leader in playoff receiving yards. In Super Bowl LIX, Smith was on the receiving end of one of the most memorable passes in franchise history, a 46-yard touchdown reception known simply as "The Dagger."

"DeVonta's done a great job (this offseason)," wide receivers coach Aaron Moorehead said of Smith's leadership. "He really has and that was a challenge that I kind of set to him in the offseason and he was ready for that. He's kind of always had it in there. And now it was just time for him to take that last step of just being 'the guy' all the time."
