Bruising, Scoring Day For McCoy

MIAMI -- After a day of being hunted down by the Miami Dolphins defense, LeSean McCoy was happy to talk about one thing: Winning the game 26-10 and keeping this 2011 season alive.

It didn't matter to McCoy that his pair of touchdown runs -- from 2 yards and then 1 yard -- gave him 17 for the season, just one shy of Steve Van Buren's franchise record, set in 1945. Nor did it matter that Miami limited McCoy to 38 yards on 27 carries, a paltry average of 1.4 yard per carry.

The win, baby, the win.

"That's all I care about," he said. "It's been a tough season for us. We're here to win. Everything we do, we do as a family and as a team, so getting out of here with a win is great. They have a good defense. Fast. They didn't give me many holes out there."

True enough. After gains of 9 yards and 11 yards on his first two carries, McCoy saw very little daylight. Of the next 25 carries, he gained 0 yards or lost yards on 13. Amazing.

McCoy added 33 yards on 3 receptions, but his numbers were very un-McCoy-like.

"We need to be better running the football. We did OK in the red zone and in some short yardage, but they beat us more than we want," said McCoy. "It's fine, though. We have a win and that's all that matters."

McCoy has never met Van Buren, and the two have very different styles. Van Buren was a large man for his time, a dominating running back. McCoy relies on quickness, vision and his ability to cut back and find some room to move. One more touchdown and McCoy ties a storied franchise record. Two more and he goes into the record books all by himself.

"Haven't thought about it," he said. "I'm just here to win games for this team."
