What's Going On At Home?

Lost in the wake of Sunday's loss to the Patriots is the fact that Lincoln Financial Field has not provided homefield advantage for the Eagles.

The Eagles are now 1-5 at home this season. Going back to the end of last year when the Eagles lost their last three home games, the Eagles have won just one out of their last nine home games. Tight end Brent Celek summarized the team's feelings about their ability to play at home.

"It's embarrassing," Celek said Sunday after the game. "We've got to win at home. Plain and simple."

The Eagles have played good teams at home. The combined record of the six teams that they have faced at Lincoln Financial Field is 41-24 (.631). Only one of those six teams currently has a losing record, the 4-7 Cardinals. However, the Eagles led in the fourth quarter of every home game except for Sunday's loss to the Patriots.

Looking at the stats on offense, there have been more touchdown throws at on the road (9) than at home (5). But they've also thrown more interceptions (10) on the road than at home (8). The rushing touchdown total is higher at home (7) than on the road (5), but no major difference. The QB rating and yards per carry numbers are similar at home compared to on the road.

For the defense, the most noticeable difference is the TD/INT ratio. Opposing quarterbacks have thrown 15 touchdowns against three interceptions at Lincoln Financial Field this season. However, opposing quarterbacks in their own stadiums have thrown eight interceptions, but only six touchdowns.

What's more frustrating is that the Eagles' one win at home was one of the more impressive all-around performances in recent memory. The Eagles' 34-7 dismantling of the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football provided a glimpse of what this team can look like when everything clicks. The problem is that the Eagles have not been able to consistently find that spark for most of this season.

"We've just not been consistent. We've got to pick it up," Celek said. "Fans are frustrated. They're paying a lot of money to come to these games and watch us play. We've got a talented team and we're just not playing that way."

The Eagles have two games remaining at home - on Dec. 18 against the Jets and on Jan. 1, 2012 against Washington. After two games on the road against Seattle and Miami, it will be interesting to see if the Eagles look forward to some home cooking to round out the season.
