For the second time this season, running back Brian Westbrook sustained a concussion.
"I feel bad for Brian," head coach Andy Reid said. "It's something that our doctors will look at and be on top of right when we get back. We'll make sure we evaluate it and take every step that we can to make sure that he's ok. We did that the last time and we're going to keep doing it.
"In these types of situations, football is secondary. We have to look out for this kid, for his future and make sure he is OK before he gets back out there. That was a heck of a hit he took."
The team was cautious after Westbrook sustained his first concussion back on Oct. 26 at Washington. He sat out the last two games before returning Sunday. He had 54 yards on eight touches when he left the game early in the second half.
Reid said it's too early to assess Westbrook's status going forward.
"We'll just see how Brian does here. I know that's a concern for everybody, us included and Brian," Reid said. "We're going to do everything the right way, and take every precautionary measure we possibly can to make sure Brian's OK."
In other injury news, cornerback Sheldon Brown left the game with a hamstring injury, leaving another hole in an already depleted secondary. Reid said Brown's injury will be re-evaluated Monday. Left tackle Jason Peters did not play because of an ankle injury.
The Eagles lost to the Chargers 31-23. The Eagles made three early trips into the red zone and came away with field goals each time. On one drive, the Eagles were unable to score a touchdown when they had a first down on the 1-yard line.
"That hurt us in the end," Reid said of the missed red zone opportunities. "When you're that close on a first down, you have to get in."
But Reid said there were some positive things to take away from the loss. Trailing 28-9, the Eagles fought back and were within five points with over 7 minutes to go.
"We were in a position to win the game, and when you're down by that much, it kind of rips your heart out," Reid said. "The guys battled to get in the position to win the football game. Nobody hung their head and they kept fighting. There were some positive things, some things we can learn from."
