Vick Ready To Play Sunday Vs. Jets

Quarterback Michael Vick sat out Wednesday's practice in order to rest his injured ribs. The move, he said, was made merely as a precaution and that he fully expects to be "ready to play" when the Jets come to town on Sunday.

"I'm feeling better," Vick said. "I sat out practice Wednesday just to give my body some rest and try to get me to 100 percent by Sunday. I'm just taking my time with the whole process. It's a little sore when I throw, but I can tolerate it. I'm getting treatment every day and it's getting better."

Despite the fact that he's fighting his way through a nasty injury, the four-time Pro Bowl quarterback is looking forward to the team's meeting with the Jets this week. He has a lot of respect for head coach Rex Ryan and his defense and realizes what's at stake for both teams. Vick understands that he'll face a defense that has allowed the sixth-fewest passing yards in the NFL and is excited for the challenge.

"New York has a great tandem of corners," he said. "It's paramount that we be precise in the passing game this week. It's always tough when you play a defense like this. We're up to it."

The dynamic signal-caller refused to answer questions about whether or not he would make good on his guarantee to try and avoid contact when taking off as a ball-carrier, claiming that "there are better things to talk about than whether or not (he's) sliding."

"It's my style of play. I take a lot of hits, but it doesn't affect me," Vick went on to say. "When I was a kid, I used to play football in the backyard. I must have gotten hit about a million times out there, same thing in Pop Warner, and so on. Getting knocked to the ground is as natural as walking to me, it's nothing.

"I don't feel like I took too many hits Sunday. Immediately following the game, I actually felt better than I usually do. That's a credit to our offensive line and our coaches."

Asked if his ascending age was a factor in his recent injury history, the 31-year-old quarterback merely remarked, "the older you get, the better you get."

Eagles fans everywhere certainly hope Vick is right.
