Vick Knows He's Still A Work In Progress

In his regular season debut with the Philadelphia Eagles, quarterback Michael Vick was on the field for 11 snaps against the Kansas City Chiefs. He lined up as a receiver, kept the ball on an option for 7 yards, pitched the ball on another, threw two incomplete passes and handed the ball off the remaining six times.

Certainly not a dazzling debut by any stretch of the imagination, but this was someone who had not played in a meaningful game since New Year's Eve in 2006.

Vick admitted on Monday that he's "still a work in progress." For those that want to know when the dynamic, electrifying playmaker will be 100 percent effective again, Vick said that's still "to be determined." Should Donovan McNabb return to the lineup this Sunday when the Eagles host the Buccaneers, McNabb has missed the last two games with a fractured rib, Vick doesn't know how involved he will be with the offense.

"I think that's up to the coaches what my role is going to be," said Vick about his role now and moving forward. "Whatever it may be, I'm acceptive of it and excited about it."

Vick said that McNabb looked "great throwing the football" and that his passes were "coming out very sharp" in Monday's 10-10-10 practice. In fact, Vick said that McNabb "looked like he hasn't missed a beat."

No matter what McNabb's status is for Sunday's game, Vick wants to lose four more pounds - he is currently at 212 - and continue to "make progress."

"The thing is just to get out there and make positive plays," Vick said. "It's inevitable to say that we won't make negative plays or negative plays won't happen. The thing is to avoid it and work in the framework of the Wildcat offense."
