The NFL announced on Monday that the trade deadline, which was scheduled for 4 PM (EST) on Tuesday, will be pushed back 48 hours to Thursday at 4 PM due to Hurricane Sandy.
The NFL's offices in New York City, as well as the Eagles' offices, were closed on Monday due to the storm. The NFL's offices will also be closed on Tuesday.
The league and the NFL Players' Association agreed in August to move the trade deadline back from Week 7 to Week 9. Trade deadline moves are rare, but a couple happened a year ago. The Raiders acquired quarterback Carson Palmer. The Rams traded for wide receiver Brandon Lloyd. Even the Eagles had a deal in place to send running back Ronnie Brown to Detroit, but it fell through when running back Jerome Harrison failed his physical.
Through the first eight weeks of the season, there are only nine teams who are worse than one game below the .500 mark. The competitive landscape will mean that teams could be looking to acquire players, but will there be enough sellers with so few teams out of the playoff chase?
