Three Takeaways From First Quarter

The Eagles came out ready to play in the first quarter of Sunday's game. The team quickly got things going on the offensive side of the ball, putting up the first points of the afternoon on its second possession of the game. However, Tampa Bay was able to tie the scoring and entering the second quarter the game stands at 7-7.

Whirlwind Of A Start

It all started with a double fumble and ended with a Josh Huff touchdown. After gaining 11 yards of offense on the first two plays of the game, a DeMarco Murray fumble had all of Philadelphia holding its breath. Tampa Bay's Jacquies Smith recovered the ball and ran to the Philadelphia 14 where Zach Ertz was able to pop it loose. Brent Celek recovered and after an official review the calling on the field was confirmed.

Back where they originally began, the Eagles tried to rebuild their momentum. They did just that in seven plays. Mark Sanchez, making his first start of the season in place of the injured Sam Bradford, went 5-of-5 for 67 yards on the drive and even picked up 11 rushing yards. The biggest play came from the Tampa Bay 39-yard line when the quarterback found Huff on a short pass and the wide receiver took off. He dodged his defenders and found the back of the end zone to give Philadelphia an early 7-0 lead. It is the second straight game Huff has scored a receiving touchdown.

Costly Penalty

On a third-and-6 from his own 29, Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston threw downfield to Charles Sims looking to extend the team's drive. The pass was overthrown and it appeared as though the Eagles' defense had provided a huge stop. But, the flag on the field indicated defensive offsides called on Brandon Graham. The next play, running back Doug Martin gained 58 yards off a pitch on third-and-1 and shortly thereafter, Mike Evans caught a touchdown pass from Winston to tie the score.

Run Defense Continues To Struggle

Through just the first 15 minutes, the Eagles' defense has already allowed 106 rushing yards. As of late the team has had issues defending the run, which could be a major problem against the Buccaneers as the game continues. Martin has accumulated 85 yards on eight carries and Sims has gained 21 yards on three carries.
