The Eagles announced that tight end Brent Celek underwent two successful surgeries on Tuesday - one to repair a sports hernia and another to fix a torn labrum in his left hip.

The procedures were performed at the same time. Dr. William Meyers fixed the sports hernia and Dr. John Salvo from the Rothman Institute was responsible for taking care of the labrum repair. The operations took place at Jefferson at the Navy Yard in Philadelphia. There was no announcement regarding a timetable for rehab.

Celek's injuries make his 2011 season that much more amazing. He was second on the team with 62 catches for 811 yards and five touchdowns. Celek, along with Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson, became the first trio of Eagles to each top the 800-yard receiving plateau in the same season in franchise history.

The 6-4, 255-pound Celek was a force in the passing game in the final 11 games of the season. Celek caught a touchdown in each of the final three games. Against the Jets on December 18, Celek had a career-high 156 receiving yards which was the second-highest single-game total by a tight end in franchise history.

Celek is not just a force in the pass game. NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger called Celek the "best all-around tight end in the NFL" because of his blocking ability.

A fifth-round pick of the Eagles in 2005, Celek has established himself as one of the preeminent tight ends in franchise history. He is sixth in team history among tight ends in receptions, fourth in touchdowns and second in receiving yards. Celek inked a six-year contract extension in 2009 that will keep him in midnight green through the 2016 season.
