The clock moves faster at this time of the year with a breakneck tempo, high intensity, total focus. There are, in all, five weeks of practices, walkthroughs, meetings, and preseason games in this 2026 Philadelphia Eagles Training Camp and every bit of it is important as the Eagles pare the roster to 53 players before the regular season opens on September 13 at Lincoln Financial Field against the Washington Commanders.

And there is, we all agree, so much to watch. So much to digest. So many questions to answer, scenarios to unfold, battles to evaluate.

Players report to the Jefferson Health Training Complex on Tuesday and take conditioning tests, dig into the meeting schedule, and then prepare for Wednesday's first on-field practice.

What are we all looking for in this Training Camp? What positional battles will capture the most attention? Are there particular storylines to follow? Let's dig in and, by the way, welcome to the building of the 2026 Philadelphia Eagles!

1. A new offensive staff puts the plan together

Offensive Coordinator Sean Mannion and the coaching staff introduced the X's and O's and the concepts of this offensive structure in the spring and now install periods and the demands and the precision of what he wants ramp up exponentially in South Philadelphia. What do we know about the offense? We know what Mannion believes in based on his playing career and the time he spent in Green Bay as an assistant coach. Mannion explained, in generalities, what he is looking for with the offense when he met the media in May.

"There's things I believe in and there's things that schematically I have a background in, but ultimately it's going to be a blend and it's constantly going to evolve," he said. "It's about maximizing things for the players. How do we make the Eagles the best team we can be, how do we make the Eagles' offense the best it can be, and how do we put all of our players in a position to really, really succeed and maximize their strengths?"

It is unfair, then, to paint your expectations with a broad stroke. The offense is going to be different than it has been in the past. Players talked about it in the spring. But exactly how different, we just don't know. That is what Training Camp is for – for Mannion, Head Coach Nick Sirianni, Run Game Coordinator Ryan Mahaffey, Passing Game Coordinator Josh Grizzard, Offensive Line Coach Chris Kuper and the entire staff, to create an offense that best fits the skill sets of this offensive roster.

2. The defense has its share of stories, too

Vic Fangio has new personnel to learn. He has some starting jobs from 2025 that will look different in 2026, specifically the safety room, linebacker, cornerback, and edge. This is where Fangio thrives – evaluating the players and putting them in the best position to succeed. He has Marcus Epps and a host of others working in at safety. He has Riq Woolen new to the cornerback room. He has Jonathan Greenard and some intriguing veterans on board to provide production off the edge. He has second-year man Jihaad Campbell ready to take the next step. No defensive mind in the NFL is better at sifting through the process and preparing a defense for the regular season than Fangio.

3. 2026 Rookie Class

How much can they contribute, starting with No. 1 draft pick wide receiver Makai Lemon and moving on through the Eagles Draft class, which opened with five offensive players selected. It is not just about the Draft Class, of course. The Eagles have expectations for every player signed AFTER the 2026 Draft, too. Every player on the roster has a shot here and that's what makes for a robust 53-man roster and a practice squad that contributes during the course of a season.

4. New veteran Eagles and how they fit in

It isn't just about Greenard and Woolen, of course. The Eagles were active in the offseason with the idea of bringing in players to challenge every area of the roster, and as you step back and look at this team, that's exactly what you see.

The edge position has a slew of veterans here to compete, including Arnold Ebiketie and A.J. Epenesa. The tight end room is dramatically different, including the addition of veteran standout blocker Johnny Mundt. At wide receiver, Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore joined in free agency and Dontayvion Wicks became an Eagle via a trade with Green Bay. Jonathan Jones signed in free agency to bolster the cornerback/nickel positions. Dameon Pierce and Elijah Mitchell are new veterans in the running back room. Andy Dalton brings 15 seasons of experience to the quarterback room. How do they fit in? That's what these next five weeks will tell us.

5. Three preseason games and joint practices

Of course, after a week or two, the Eagles are going to tire of practicing against Eagles, so that's when the preseason schedule begins in Baltimore – the first of three preseason games. Players who take good reps from the practice field to the preseason games and excel there are the ones who stand out. A couple of days of joint practices in Foxborough, Mass. against the defending AFC Champion Patriots are extremely valuable as well. The more reps, the more evaluation, the better it is for the personnel team to have accurate reads on every player. And that leads to ...

6. Evaluating the roster and eyeing September 13

All of the next five weeks are critical to Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman and his team putting together the best 53-man roster for the start of the regular season. Stay healthy. Put together a great 53 and a strong 16-man practice squad and, hey, it's go time for the Commanders and 17 games on the way to a deep run in the 2026 postseason.
