McCoy: We Have To Finish

It was billed as a matchup of two of the best running backs in the league. In the end, LeSean McCoy was left looking on in envy at Matt Forte. Forte totaled 150 yards from scrimmage to McCoy's 117, but it would be easy to argue that McCoy had the better individual night, as he added a touchdown to his docket while the usually sure-handed Forte lost two fumbles, his first two fumbles on the season. But where McCoy found himself jealous of Forte was on the scoreboard, where Forte's Bears outclassed McCoy's Eagles 30-24 on Monday Night Football.

For the fourth time this season, the Eagles surrendered a fourth-quarter lead en route to a crushing loss that leaves them 3-5, three games behind the division-leading New York Giants. And it could have been so much different - the Eagles had the ball down six points with under four minutes to go with a chance to win the game. But the drive ended when Michael Vick's fourth-down completion to Jeremy Maclin fell short of the first-down marker.

"Just being right there, having a chance to win the game at the end, no matter how badly we played the whole game, having a chance to win at the end and coming up short" is what hurts the most," said McCoy following the game. "It's tough because our offense, with so many good players, we kind of take it personally to kind of go in there with the game on our shoulders and not score. We have to get better.

"Each game that we lost, we kind of had the game kind of in control for the most part and we found a way to lose it."

Amid the loss, McCoy tied an Eagles franchise record with a touchdown his eighth consecutive game, a record set by Steve Van Buren in 1947. McCoy credited his blockers for leading the way to his 11 touchdowns on the season, but said there's no soothing the Eagles' third loss of the season in front of the home fans.

"We can't afford to lose games like this at home, especially at home in a tight game," he said. "It's a deadly offense that we have, we have to find a way to pull it out."

So where do the Eagles go from here? In a three-game hole halfway through the season, things certainly look dour, but McCoy, for one, has no plans to let up.

"The mindframe is always we can catch (the Giants), and everybody's going to remain positive, you just have to do it," he said. "In tough games like this, this close, you have to capitalize and finish out. I mean, (the Giants) are rolling right now, but you can't focus on them. We have to just play our games and get our wins, finish the games out."
