Jackson Named Sporting News' All-Pro Punt Returner

On Wednesday, The Sporting News unveiled the remainder of its All-Pro team for the 2009 season and DeSean Jackson was named its punt return specialist. On Tuesday, David Akers earned the magazine's honor as the All-Pro placekicker. The team is selected by a panel of 636 coaches, players and executives.

Jackson led the NFL with a return average of 15.2 yards per punt, which was the third-highest single-season average in team history (Brian Westbrook and Steve Van Buren, 15.3). Jackson also led the NFL with two punt returns for a touchdown, which tied Westbrook's team record for most in a season (2003). With three punt return touchdowns in his first two seasons, Jackson is already the franchise record holder in that category.

Twice, Jackson was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month this season (September, December). He was also the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for the season-opening win over Carolina where he returned a punt 85 yards for a touchdown. Jackson's other punt return touchdown came in the Week 14 shootout win over the Giants when he returned a Jeff Feagles' punt 72 yards for a score.
