Evan Mathis Diary: All That I Dreamed Of

This has been a great, great experience for me. It's everything that I had heard about from those who have been to previous Pro Bowls. I brought my wife and daughter out here and it's been great. Busier than maybe I expected, but great.

We arrived on Tuesday and went to our hotel and kind of settled in, met some of the guys and relaxed after a long trip. On Wednesday, we had the Pro Bowl Draft, which occupied four or five hours when it was all said and done. It was an event for television and the fans were great and the excitement factor was there. Earlier in the day we participated in a community event for the NFL's Play60 program and worked on a mural for the Wounded Warrior Project.

There wasn't a lot of time to just lay around, but we all know that there is more to this than just the game. We're in Hawaii, a place where the fans love football, but don't have a chance to get up close. So we make it easier for the people here to see the players and the game.

Thursday was more of a day to settle into a routine. We had our first practice for Team Rice and it went fine. There was a nice tempo, a learning day, with a lot of communication. The pace was light. It was good to get back out on the field.

When I've had the time, I've just hung out at the hotel with my family. It's a really nice place and the food is great and the people are extremely nice and accommodating. That's the part I cherish, being able to share this with my wife and daughter.

Seeing the guys is obviously a great part, too. I've played with some of them at one level or another, or have gotten to know them over the years, so to have some time and to relax with them is what I think everyone is going to remember.

Everyone is out here having a good time. It's not too physically taxing, and that's good. I keep myself in good shape all the time. I don't lose my lungs. I think I've done a good job keeping my body in shape after the season. I gave myself some time to recover and then I started picking up the pace just a bit.

The game on Sunday is going to be a blast. I'm really looking forward to it. I'll go out and do my job. I'm not going to be embarrassed and let the defense get the best of me. If they want to go hard, I'll go hard. I'm not a dirty player by any means, but I know that I have a job to do.

I'd like to say thanks to any and all Eagles fans who are here or who have reached out to me. The season we had was something we can build on. It's getting better and better. I love being a Philadelphia Eagle and receiving so much support from the fans. There are a lot of Eagles fans here, and that's been really cool to see.

I'd like to see some of Hawaii before we leave, so hopefully I can do that and enjoy every minute of it. I've waited a long time to be here. I'm making sure to savor every part of the experience.
