Game Recap: Commanders 24, Eagles 17

The Eagles will be the NFC's No. 3 seed and host the 49ers in the Wild Card round.

The Eagles will be the NFC's No. 3 seed after falling to the Commanders, 24-17. Philadelphia will host the No. 6 seed San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round on a date and time that is to be determined.

Here is how the Eagles lost the regular season finale to Washington:

1st Quarter

4th-and-5 at PHI 6 (2:36)

  • DOINK! Jake Moody nails a 24-yard field goal off the right upright to keep the game scoreless early. The 9 minutes, 48 second drive ends with no points for the Commanders.

3rd-and-1 at PHI 40 (:22)

  • DeVonta Smith reaches 1,000 receiving yards on the season by hauling in a 27-yard jump ball from Tanner McKee! All four of McKee's passes went to Smith, who has 52 yards. This is Smith's third 1,000-yard season of his career.

2nd Quarter

3rd-and-7 at WAS 15 (13:43)

  • TOUCHDOWN! Tanner McKee finds Grant Calcaterra for a 15-yard touchdown over the middle for both of their first touchdowns of the year! McKee looked terrific on the drive as the Eagles went 80 yards on nine plays. (Eagles 7 – Commanders 0)

2nd-and-goal at PHI 1 (9:08)

  • The Commanders score on a 1-yard run from Chris Rodriguez. Washington's drive was extended by a pass interference call in the end zone. (Eagles 7 – Commanders 7)

2nd-and-7 at WAS (2:00)

  • INTERCEPTION! Jalyx Hunt picks off Josh Johnson thanks to pressure from Joshua Uche! Hunt, who made the diving play, now has a team-high three interceptions this season. The Eagles take over at the Washington 22-yard line.

2nd-and-10 at PHI 38 (:05)

  • Jake Moody makes a 56-yard field goal to give the Commanders their first lead at halftime. Washington will get the ball to start the second half. (Commanders 10 – Eagles 7)

3rd Quarter

1st-and-10 at WAS 42 (10:57)

  • FUMBLE RECOVERY! Josh Johnson fumbled the snap and Jalyx Hunt recovers! The Eagles take over at Washington's 28-yard line.

3rd-and-goal at WAS 2 (6:33)

  • TOUCHDOWN! Tank Bigsby runs in from 2 yards out to give the Eagles the lead! The drive was set up by a fumble recovery from Jalyx Hunt. Bigsby is up to 92 scrimmage yards. (Eagles 14 – Commanders 10)

4th-and-8 at WAS 21 (:35)

  • The Eagles extend their lead with a 39-yard field goal by Jake Elliott. Philadelphia went 52 yards on 10 plays. (Eagles 17 – Commanders 10).

4th Quarter

3rd-and-goal at PHI 2 (9:40)

  • The Commanders tie the game with a 2-yard pass to John Bates. Washington was aided by two pass interference penalties in the end zone.

3rd-and-goal at PHI 1 (2:37)

  • The Commanders take the lead on a 1-yard run by quarterback Josh Johnson. The Eagles get the ball with 2 minutes, 32 seconds remaining and all three timeouts. (Commanders 24 – Eagles 17)

4th-and-3 at WAS 31 (1:21)

  • Tanner McKee's pass falls incomplete, and the Commanders take over with 1 minutes, 21 seconds remaining. The Eagles have all three timeouts.

Standouts

OLB Jalyx Hunt

Hunt continues to impress in his second season. His diving interception gave him a team-high three this season. He also scooped up a fumbled snap to give Philadelphia possession deep in Washington territory.

RB Tank Bigsby

Bigsby shined against the Commanders, rushing 16 times for 75 yards and a touchdown. He also added one catch for 31 yards, planting his foot in the dirt and juking a defender for the big gain. — Written by Matt Ryan
