The Eagles announced on Tuesday that the team has signed running back Elijah Mitchell to the practice squad and waived running backs Jaydon Blue and Carson Steele. Steele was waived with an injury designation. The team has also released center James Brockermeyer and running back Ian Wheeler from the practice squad.

RB Elijah Mitchell signed to the practice squad

After being released by the Eagles in August, Mitchell returns to Philadelphia on the practice squad. The veteran running back initially signed with the team this offseason but suffered an injury during Training Camp.

A sixth-round draft pick by the 49ers in 2021, Mitchell accumulated 1,523 yards and 9 touchdowns on the ground through 27 games for San Francisco. The former first-team All-Sun Belt running back only saw action in one game for the Chiefs in 2025 before signing with the Patriots' practice squad.

RB Jaydon Blue waived

Blue signed with the Eagles' practice squad before the start of the season and was signed to the active roster on Saturday. Selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Texas, the Longhorn appeared in five games for Dallas in his rookie season, recording 129 rushing yards on 34 attempts and a touchdown. Blue was waived by the Cowboys as part of the final roster cuts.

The 5-foot-9 running back ran a 4.38 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine following a senior collegiate season which saw Blue rush for 730 yards, 8 touchdowns, and average 5.4 yards per carry. In addition, Blue caught six touchdowns through the air in his final season at Texas.

RB Carson Steele waived/injured

After signing a reserve/future contract back in January with the Eagles, Steele made his mark during the preseason – recording two receiving touchdowns, leading the Eagles in receiving yards in two games, and hurdling two Patriots. The third-year power back originally signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2024 out of UCLA.

Steele was signed from the practice squad ahead of the Eagles' Week 5 matchup in London following injuries to Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby. Against the Panthers in Week 6, Steele caught a screen for 4 yards before leaving the game with a shoulder injury. He later returned to the game but was limited.

C James Brockermeyer released from practice squad

After going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, Brockermeyer signed with the Falcons as a free agent but was waived during final roster cuts on August 30. The team re-signed him to the practice squad the following day. Brockermeyer was released from the Falcons' practice squad in late September before signing with the Eagles' practice squad earlier this month.

The 6-foot-3, 298-pound offensive lineman spent his first three years of college football at Alabama before transferring to Texas Christian University for the 2024 season. Brockermeyer then transferred to the University of Miami in 2025, where he earned first-team All-American honors and helped the Hurricanes reach the 2026 College Football Playoff National Championship. Brockermeyer's father, Blake Brockermeyer, had a 14-year career as an offensive tackle in the NFL, playing for the Panthers, Bears, and Broncos.

RB Ian Wheeler released from practice squad

Wheeler, an undrafted free agent in 2024, signed with the Eagles' practice squad last week. Through four seasons at Howard University, Wheeler averaged 6.5 yards per carry for a total of 1,143 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.

The former Bison was accepted into the university's College of Medicine as he is an aspiring physician, but deferred his enrollment to pursue a career in the NFL. Wheeler suffered a knee injury in the Bears' final preseason game in 2024.

After being waived by Chicago in 2025, Wheeler spent a month on the Saints' practice squad. The 5-foot-10 running back then joined the Louisville Kings for the 2026 United Football League season, where he helped the Kings win the championship. He was named the United Bowl MVP, averaging 8.1 yards per run for 81 yards and a touchdown. – Written by Caroline Connor
