Eagles, Colts All Tied Up After First

Stifling Defense To Start

The defense made its presence known early Saturday night. On the game's opening drive, pressure from defensive end Brandon Graham led to defensive end Connor Barwin's sack on quarterback Andrew Luck forcing an early punt from the Colts.

Offense Makes Big Plays and Big Mistakes

On the Eagles first snap, linebacker Nate Irving split through the Eagles' frontline sacking quarterback Sam Bradford for a 13 yard loss. After a short run by running back Ryan Mathews, Bradford connected on a 19-yard reception to wide receiver Chris Givens giving the Eagles a first down. On the ensuing play, Bradford's pass bobbled through the hands of wide receiver Nelson Agholor resulting in an interception by cornerback Darius Butler who was able to carry the football to Philadelphia's 33.

Colts Strike First

Luck made his first completion of the night on 26-yard dime to wide receiver Donte Moncrief bring the Colts within seven yards of the end zone. A 22-field goal made by Adam Vinatieri put the Colts on the board with a 3-0 lead.

Sturgis Nails 32-Yarder

Rookie Wendell Smallwood, who received his first NFL action tonight, got off to a solid start after getting the nod with the kick return and fought for 30 yards setting up the offense at the Eagles' 32.  During the drive, a a short pass from Bradford to wide receiver Josh Huff picked up 38 yards bringing the Eagles to Colts' territory. Two plays later, Bradford unsuccessfully tried to find receiver Dorial Green-Beckham in the end zone who was heavily covered. Cayleb Sturgis knotted the game at 3-3 on a 32 yard field goal.

Allen Gives The Eagles' Second Sack

After a first-down pickup on a short Luck pass to Ty Hilton, defensive tackle Beau Allen brought down Luck for a loss of eight yards with 3:52 remaining in the first, giving the team its second sack of the opening.

Eagles' Run Game Gets a Boost Before The Quarter Ends

Mathews got going on back to back rushes picking up nine before peeling free on the outside for a 16-yard pick up. On the following play, a five-yard rush from running back Kenjon Barner in addition to an Illegal use of hands on Colts defensive end Sterling Bailey gets the Eagles in the red zone prior to the end of the first quarter.
