Dawkins: Sunday Will Be 'Electric'

When Brian Dawkins' number 20 is retired on Sunday night in front of a sold-out crowd at Lincoln Financial Field, he knows what he's going to say.

Does he have it written down? Nope. Dawkins simply tapped on his chest over his heart.

"It's here baby. It's a heart thing," Dawkins said on Friday at the NovaCare Complex shortly after arriving in Philadelphia.

The only question for the five-time defensive team MVP is which Dawkins is going to show up.

"I just don't know what type of mood I'll be (in). Will I kick into game mode? Will I be a mushy, tear machine? All I know is that it's an awesome thing," Dawkins said. "The last time I checked this is not a normal thing for a guy to get his number retired when they're yet young. I consider myself to be young. I know they didn't on the football field, but I consider myself to be young and alive, to be honest with you. This is a tremendous honor."

The 38-year-old Dawkins may not know how he'll handle the moment, but he knows how the crowd will. The same way it responded to him for his 13 seasons in midnight green.

"It's going to be electric," Dawkins said. "It's probably going to be even louder this time. I'm looking forward to that one last time."

No matter which Dawkins shows up, the fans will love and honor the one who does.
