Akers Named To Sporting News All-Pro Team

In the next few weeks a number of individual honors will be bestowed upon members of the Eagles and on Tuesday kicker David Akers was named to the Sporting News' All-Pro team for the 2009 season.

The Pro Bowl-bound Akers was tied for the league lead with 32 field goals and was second in the league with 139 points, each of those totals were the second-highest single-season outputs in team history (144 points and 33 field goals by Akers in 2008). Akers was also third in the league with 12 field goals of 40-or-more yards.

Akers tied the franchise record for most consecutive successful field goal attempts with 17. He had two games this year with three field goals of 40-plus yards. He hit two game-winning field goals this season within the final two minutes of the contest (vs. Washington, vs. Denver). Akers also earned NFC Special Teams Player of the Month honors after connecting on all 13 of his field goal attempts.

In addition to wrapping up the fourth Pro Bowl nomination of his career, Akers also solidified his standing as the most prolific kicker of the decade. With 1,169 points, Akers led all NFL kickers for the 2000s.

Akers is the Eagles' all-time leader in points (1,180), field goals (262), 50-plus-yard field goals (14) and PATs (393).
