Nick Sirianni: 'Don't let good get in the way of being great'

The Eagles are 4-0 to start the season for the third time since Nick Sirianni took over as head coach in 2021. No other team in the NFL has three such hot starts in that span.

And the 2025 iteration of Sirianni's team has rose to the occasion each week in a unique manner: Overcoming an hour-long weather delay in the Thursday night season opener against Dallas, going on the road to hand the Chiefs their first loss at Arrowhead Stadium in over a year, rallying from a 19-point deficit and clinching the win on a field goal block, and outlasting the heat and the Bucs behind a brilliant first-half offense and two key takeaways on defense in the second half.

In three of those four games, the Eagles were facing a previously undefeated team.

And yet, the Eagles are the lone undefeated team in the NFC with a 4-0 mark. Again.

"We just (have) guys that work their butts off," Sirianni said. "We stress it. We talk about it, how the hard work ... that's really what we talked about all week is that the game and the work that you put into the game never lie to you. We have guys that put the work in, we have coaches that put the work in. Listen, we (have) a lot to clean up, but to be 4-0, that's good. What we talked about was, 'Don't let good get in the way of great.' So, we have a lot to clean up. We'll enjoy this. Again, I feel like a broken record, we'll enjoy this tonight, we'll enjoy this in the locker room, we'll enjoy it on the plane, and then (Monday) is going to be tough for all of us. We'll get the corrections made that we need to make."

"That's been his message all week: 'Don't let good get in the way of great,' and it's a challenge to not settle for good," quarterback Jalen Hurts said. "It's a challenge to be critical of yourselves, as players, as coaches, everybody, and say, 'How can we be greater than what we are?' So like I said, it's a humbling game. If you don't have that mentality, then you're really doing a disservice to the game itself. We play this game to win, and we take great pride in winning. We also take great pride in improvement."

Jalen Hurts: 'We have a lot of opportunity in front of us'

Quarterback Jalen Hurts and the Eagles' offense knew what awaited them in Tampa Bay. Buccaneers Head Coach Todd Bowles loves to bring the blitz. Hurts and Co. were ready.

Hurts was stellar in the first half, completing 15 of 16 attempts for 130 yards and two touchdowns. He also frustrated the Bucs with his legs, including his longest 29-yard scramble of the young season.

As Bowles brought the heat, and not the high temps, Hurts was 8-for-10 for 59 yards with two touchdowns on the afternoon. He wasn't sacked once when extra rushers were sent at him. According to Next Gen Stats, Hurts had a 70 percent success rate in the first half, the second highest to start a game in his career.

Bowles backed off in the second half and the Eagles' offense was unable to get the same traction. Hurts finished the day 15-of-24 for 130 yards with two touchdown passes, no turnovers, for a 104.5 QB rating. He also led the Eagles with 62 yards on the ground. But the Eagles' only second-half points came off of Bucs running back Bucky Irving's fumble in Tampa Bay territory.

"I think it was a great team win. Another gritty win, coming in and finding a way to win," Hurts said. "We know this has been a challenging environment to play in and a really good opponent for us over the years. Just proud of the way that we competed. (We) didn't quit, found a way, played very well situationally to an extent, obviously a lot that we can improve from, but it's always good to get a win out here and they don't come easy. So, we had to go out there and earn it and we did."

Hurts avenged the last game that he lost when he started and finished, which was against the Buccaneers in Week 4 of the 2024 season. That's 18 straight wins for Hurts and the Eagles. Hurts has the highest QB win percentage among all QBs (46-12, .793) with multiple starts since 2022, including playoffs.

"You can be on top one day and at the bottom the next. This game is very humbling and I take that approach in it," Hurts said. "You just got to be of the notion of getting better, stretching yourself every day, trying to grow every day, having that competitive mentality with things every day. That's what we have as a team, that's what I have and I want to continue to build off that."

The Eagles left Tampa Bay last season with a 2-2 record before finishing with 16 wins in their final 17 games to capture the Super Bowl title. This time around, the Eagles are 4-0 and already have a two-game edge in the division, but Hurts has the same perspective as he did in 2024.

"We had a lot of opportunity in front of us. I think we're in a good place now, no different because we have a lot of opportunity in front of us, and so we're looking at the standard of execution," Hurts said.

He added: "Talent wins you games, but a certain level of team – collective play, collective attacking and intelligence in the game – that wins you championships. So, we just want to continue to build in that direction."

Eagles score special teams touchdown in second straight game

The Eagles opened Sunday's game how they closed Week 3: Scoring a special teams touchdown.

Philadelphia forced a punt on Tampa Bay's opening possession, and tight end Cameron Latu shot through the middle for the block. The ball then popped up and landed into the arms of safety Sydney Brown, who took it 35 yards for a touchdown.

The huge special teams play helped set the tone for what was a big first half for the Eagles.

"I think what we do great on this team – and what other teams don't do – our special teams guys have roles," Brown said. "Everybody has a role throughout the week and it's not like we (mess) around. I think everybody goes out there, they play hard, they understand what we need to do to be successful.

"What (special teams coaches Michael) Clay and Tyler Brown and Joe (Pannunzio) are giving us – that's what we do. We dominate it, and I think that when you play complementary football, I think special teams is one of those three phases that can really impact the game."

Saquon Barkley is only thinking about the scoreboard

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers held Saquon Barkley to 43 rushing yards on 19 carries in the Eagles' Week 4 win. Barkley added a slick 6-yard touchdown run on a fake Tush Push (presented by DUDE Wipes), but the Tampa Bay defense overall did a good job preventing him from taking over.

Barkley doesn't mind, though. The Eagles got the win and that's all that matters.

"I like winning. I like winning football," he said postgame. "I don't know, that's just me. I like winning football games, and I don't care what it looks like. Whether it's me rushing for 20 yards or me rushing for 200 yards. Whatever it takes. I don't care if the score is 6-3 or 36-4. We're 4-0."

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead and led by as many as 21 points at the end of the first half. Tampa Bay made a strong comeback attempt as the Eagles' offense wasn't able to get going, but Philadelphia held on to secure the win.

While Barkley is only concerned about the final score, he knows the offense needs to be better than it was in the second half to keep the wins coming.

"The way we played the second half this week and the way we played the first half last week, especially on offense, we're going to have a hard time winning football games," he said. "We've just got to continue to improve, continue to jell, find, I hate using this word, but (an) identity within (the) offense and in the run game.

"That's what the season's for. We're going to continue to get better. We've got guys that want to continue to get better and want to be great and (are) going to continue to buy in. So (I) just look forward to next week."

Jihaad Campbell rebounds with game-changing pick

Late in the third quarter, Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving had a 72-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown to cut into the Eagles' lead. Rookie linebacker Jihaad Campbell was in coverage on the play, but despite tight coverage, he wasn't able to make the diving play, resulting in an explosive touchdown.

After the game, Campbell talked about how the NFL is a "next-play mentality type of industry," and he certainly lived up to that statement.

Campbell had an end zone interception off Baker Mayfield with the Eagles leading by eight in the fourth quarter. The interception helped flip the momentum and secure the win. Campbell has already forced two turnovers early in his career, the first coming against the Cowboys in Week 1, and he said that's something he has focused on recently.

"As I learn the game and as I grow, I think the biggest thing is it's all about the ball," Campbell said. "Like, you look at (longtime NFL cornerback) Peanut Tillman, he always talks about the ball, just different points of where he's attacking at and stuff like that.

"I mean, we have great guys here that got the ball out. You talk about Zack Baun, you talk about Nakobe Dean, Reed (Blankenship). I mean, I can name a lot of guys on our team, J.C. (Jalen Carter). I can name a lot of guys on our team that got the ball out that is on teach tape already that I can learn from. It's just a blessing just being on this team and having that knack for the ball, having that mindset to go get the ball."
