A team comes to this point, when the public portion of Training Camp has ended and the final preseason game is just hours away, and an assessment is due.
What have the Eagles accomplished in this summer of 2025?
Quarterback Jalen Hurts has an answer.
"I think we had a really good offseason and a really good Training Camp and being able to build on the foundation that we've established over the years. I think we're headed in a good direction," Hurts said on Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex. "We just want to continue to build. I think for the context of what Training Camp serves, you want to find the identity and we know what we're capable of and the things we need to work on. When you go into Training Camp, you're trying new things, trying to expand your repertoire, and build on some things and you take the highs with the lows knowing that you kind of know what direction you want to be in.
"It's just about building. I think we did just that."

A lot of great things happened in the 20 days of on-field practice (including walk-throughs) and the Eagles recognize those things: Tyler Steen asserted himself as the starter at the right guard position, depth emerged at wide receiver, the running back room is loaded, the front seven on defense is brimming with talent, the Rookie Class looks like it might contribute significantly, and some second-year players (running back Will Shipley, linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, Jr., edge player Jalyx Hunt) have taken that big step, and young quarterback Tanner McKee has fit in nicely behind Hurts. On the coaching side, Kevin Patullo looks comfortable and capable in his new role of offensive coordinator and playcaller.
The Eagles, in short, emerge from Training Camp excited about where they are, and are also very aware that the overall purpose is to find the best 53 players plus a practice squad for the 2025 season. A lot of work remains between now and Tuesday at 4 PM when the rosters must be down to 53.
"My process has evolved on what I expect from Training Camp," Hurts said. "I think, over the years, it's become more and more about winning and I know that is a very broad thing and it takes everyone. It takes truly everyone. When it comes to having a new offensive playcaller and new offensive coordinator, you take all of those things into consideration. When you're filling in voids at any position, you take all of those things into consideration, and when you are trying to build a new identity or establish something new, you take all of those things into consideration."
Hurts asks himself this question, the overriding one for all 32 squads in the NFL: "Where are we gonna be as a team? It's not about where am I. Where is Jalen? It's about where we are. I can't do my job without everyone else."
The focus at this very moment is on the New York Jets and preseason game No. 3 and giving those players fighting for roster spots a last chance to show what they can do. Then the players will have the weekend off before all sights turn to September 4 and the regular-season opener against Dallas at Lincoln Financial Field.
Then we will learn about the Eagles' identity and the weekly approach to winning the game directly in front of them.
That is the process. That is the cadence of the season.
Training Camp is over and with it one phase of the season. There are many steps on the ladder remaining and the Eagles will take them one by one.
This is the only way in the NFL, and Hurts knows it.
"We're all on the same page with the same message," he said. "What can we do to win that week? That's where you put all of your energy and focus because that is all that truly matters."
