Johnny Mundt 'ready to fully embrace' Eagles' championship standard

When Johnny Mundt wasn't selected in the 2017 NFL Draft, the tight end realized that he needed to discover a way to carve out a name for himself in order to stick on a roster. Primarily a pass-catching tight end, Mundt dedicated himself to the art of blocking, learning how to attack his landmarks and move his body in space more efficiently.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Mundt signed his one-year deal with Philadelphia on Friday to embark on his 10th NFL season. And he's one of the best in the league at what he does. Amongst the 88 tight ends with at least 100 blocking snaps in 2025, Mundt had the seventh-highest pass blocking grade and ninth-highest run blocking grade, according to Pro Football Focus.

"When I know I make a good block in the first one and a half seconds of the play, I know I won my rep and then I see the running back down the sideline, I mean, there's no better feeling. It's really special," Mundt said shortly after putting pen to paper on his deal.

A Super Bowl LVI Champion with the Rams, where he started his NFL career, Mundt has 74 catches for 658 yards and four touchdowns in 114 regular-season games. After five years in Los Angeles, Mundt spent three seasons with the Vikings before mowing down defenders for the Jaguars in 2025. Understanding what it takes to win in the NFL, it didn't take Mundt long to see why the Eagles have been to the playoffs in each of Nick Sirianni's five seasons as head coach. Mundt embraces playing for an organization with high standards.

"I realized very quickly here, we're not shying away from that. And I love that," Mundt said. "And I'm ready to fully embrace that and make it all the way."

Philadelphia was also appealing to Mundt because it presented an opportunity to play for his former teammate, Sean Mannion, now the Eagles' offensive coordinator. The two were together in Los Angeles and Minnesota, where Mannion was the backup quarterback.

"We click really well with each other. He knows my skill sets. He knows where I come from, where I've been, what I do. That was a huge, huge point of coming here," Mundt said.

"Sean was just always very mature. Very calm, cool, collected. But he also had that fire in his eyes. He knows ball. He's been around a lot of places, done a lot of things. I'm excited to work with him again. Sitting in those quarterback meeting rooms, those guys put in so many hours of preparation and now he's just doing it from the other side of the table."
