As the opening half comes to a close, the Eagles lead the Buccaneers 14-6. Here's a quick recap of the game up to this point …

Wentz Makes His Debut

With 1:19 remaining in the second quarter, rookie quarterback Carson Wentz made his Eagles debut to the sound of cheering fans at Lincoln Financial Field. His first completion of the night was a 19-yard pass to tight end Zach Ertz, bringing the team to the Tampa Bay 49, but the offense was unable to move the chains again during the half. Wentz is expected to see the bulk of the Eagles' snaps in the second half.

Special Teams Key

On the opening play of the game, linebacker Najee Goode forced a fumble on Tampa Bay's Kenny Bell which was recovered by safety Chris Maragos at the Buccaneers' 18-yard line. Three plays later, running back Ryan Mathews ran in the Eagles' first score of the preseason with a 5-yard touchdown.

Defense Making Plays

After a stellar first quarter, which included a Fletcher Cox sack and forced fumble of quarterback Jameis Winston that ultimately lead to a Chase Daniel touchdown, the Eagles' defense picked up right where it left off.

As the second quarter began, the Eagles were forced to punt. But, less than a minute later Philadelphia was back in possession thanks to another three-and-out forced by the team's defense. With the ball at the Tampa Bay 44-yard line, Taylor Hart recorded a tackle for loss, pushing the Bucs back 3 yards. The defense followed that up by forcing two incomplete passes to bring up fourth down and get the offense back on the field.

Then, with 10:25 remaining before the half, the Eagles' defense registered its second sack of the night. This time, it was Connor Barwin and Beau Allen taking down Tampa Bay quarterback Mike Glennon for a loss of 7 yards. The sack brought up fourth-and-22 for the Buccaneers, who were forced to punt the ball after the play.

Maragos Comes Up Big

Safety Chris Maragos wasn't just making plays on special teams for the Birds during the first half. At the 4:36 mark, Glennon threw a pass deep, aiming to connect with wide receiver Jonathan Krause, a former Eagle. Instead, Maragos jumped up and made the interception at the Philadelphia 26-yard line.

Personnel Updates

Quarterback Sam Bradford checked out of the game after the Eagles' early score. Guard Brandon Brooks suffered an injury to his right bicep. He will not return, but the injury is not considered serious.
