The Philadelphia Eagles report to the NovaCare Complex for the start of 2025 Training Camp, presented by Independence Blue Cross, on Tuesday, July 22. PhiladelphiaEagles.com will get you ready by previewing the top storylines at each position. Today, a look at the defensive tackles, featuring former first-round pick and All-Pro game-wrecker Jalen Carter.

Did You Know?

Jalen Carter is the youngest defensive tackle to earn Pro Bowl honors in Eagles history. He was just 23 in 2024.

Returning Starters

Jalen Carter is a force to be reckoned with who captured the attention of the league in 2024. He led the Eagles with 45 QB pressures, 16 QB hits, and 12 tackles for loss. The All-Pro's signature performance came in the Divisional Round win over the Rams when he had five tackles, two sacks, six pressures, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble in the fourth quarter that led to a critical field goal.

At the end of the game, with the Rams driving into the red zone, Carter delivered a sack on third-and-2 then pressured quarterback Matthew Stafford into an errant, incomplete pass to secure the win.

Carter (6-3, 314 pounds) was an ironman not only in that win over the Rams (69 of 71 defensive snaps), but played 80 percent of the defensive snaps in the regular season and 86 percent in the playoffs.

The scary thing is that Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio knows Carter can be even better.

"The good news about Jalen is twofold. One, he played very well for us last year, and two, he can still improve a lot," Fangio said.

The Eagles exercised the fifth-year option on Jordan Davis this offseason after the 2022 first-round pick established himself with six tackles and two sacks during the Super Bowl run. Davis (6-6, 336 pounds) has started all 40 regular-season and postseason contests over the past two seasons. Like with Carter, the Eagles believe Davis is scratching the surface of his potential. Coming out of Georgia, Davis earned a perfect 10 on the Relative Athletic Score – the best mark ever given to a defensive tackle since the ratings were first tracked in 1987.

In the Mix

Thomas Booker spent 2023 on the practice squad, worked hard behind the scenes, and impressed to the point in Training Camp and the preseason that he couldn't be left off the roster. The former fifth-round pick of the Texans out of Stanford, Booker (6-3, 301 pounds) was a reserve on both defense and special teams who played in all 21 regular-season and playoff games.

Gabe Hall is looking to make the jump that Booker made a year ago. A rookie free agent out of Baylor last season, Hall (6-6, 295 pounds) was on the practice squad for the entire season.

Moro Ojomo is entering his third NFL season, but doesn't turn 24 until August. Ojomo (6-3, 292 pounds) provided juice to the interior pass rush with 22 QB pressures in 388 defensive snaps. His pass-rush win rate of 18.7 percent was third in the NFL among interior defensive linemen last season.

Byron Young was claimed off waivers from the Raiders at the end of the preseason last season. The 2023 third-round pick out of Alabama was inactive for the first six games of the season before landing on Injured Reserve with a hamstring injury. As a rookie in Las Vegas, Young (6-3, 292 pounds) played in six games and lined up for 99 snaps on defense.

New to the Nest

Ty Robinson was the team's first Day 3 draft pick in 2025 out of Nebraska. The 6-5, 288-pound Robinson played in 60 games during his Cornhuskers career, tying the school record. A high-motor player, Robinson was productive along the defensive interior with 134 tackles, 26 for loss, and 12 sacks.

Bird Call

"I wanted to be the best at what I do, try to be the best. I'm not there yet. I still got a lot of people in front of me that's obviously been in the league a couple years, got years of experience on me. But I'm just going to keep grinding every day. Not just me by myself working on specific things to get better, just being around the team, having the guys support me also makes me also be one of the best in the league." – Jalen Carter
